You guys are both right... Take a walk around your neighborhood and count the wagons... OK now eliminate any that are older then 1985... How many are you left with... Zero? Less then that?

At a time when we desperately need cars that SELL we are focused and a gewgaw over a car that will be LUCKY to sell 2000 units annually...

Hands up who has seen a 5 Series wagon? I have... ONE of them... That's it. A friend of my wife had one specially ordered from Stuttgart... Waited 4 months for it. Even the dealer who ordered it for him thought he was nuts. This is his third car and he bought it to drive his dogs to the park... You know to walk them.... Think about that.. yes it makes no sense. The market for a luxury wagon is MINUSCULE...

Instead... as the above posts point out... The market for a large Sedan... Like the DTS or STS is about 20 times as large as the wagon market... Are we bringing in a new Cadillac sedan to compete with the LS's GS's E class, 7, A8? Nope its dead. This was a market that pre2004 the Seville and STS OWNED selling more in North America then the other's combined...

How about high end coupes? Well that market is about 5 times as big as the wagon market... and what the future for the XLR? NONE GM has announced that it too will be dead within 5 years.

So great we are bringing out an "oddball" car that no one wants and killing three that (if built properly) could sell.

GM cars are great, but our product placement, marketing and procduct mix is completely brain dead.

Not true, both replacements have been "Placed on hold - indefinitely"

At the VERY earliest we will see a DTS replacement in 2014... But most GM insiders agree that all of the DTS, STS and XLR are dead (without replacements) by 2013.

This leaves Cadillac with the CTS, CTC, CTW? the smaller FWD SRX? and the Escalade... By my count... three variants of one car.

Well at least the Holden Sportwagon exists as an actual product and not just a concept.... and it looks way better than the Dodge Magnum.

Re: Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon “likely”

What amazes me is that through Holden GM has the platform and through the CTS the power train for a large sedan. They could just add magnetic ride control as an option and Cadillac sheet metal and interior. Every thing else is already engineered! Yet they have to think about it and product niche cars while only having one sedan for Cadillac that is really class competitive. How does Rick keep his job I just don’t understand.

On a side note the reason Cadillac was the brand new technology came under was because they could absorb the development cost and their buys could pay the premium. Chevy is going to try to sell a 40K plug in car right. Well it would sell well as a SRX plug in and Cadillac buyers could move the product. Then Chevy could get a version a couple years later when the price would be more affordable. Just makes sense to me.

Re: Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon “likely”

Before Cadillac considers a CTS-V Wagon..... Please get the CTS-V Coupe out FIRST!!
Both should have already been greenlighted if I was running Cadillac.
Greenlighted when the sedan was greenlighted.

From the original post of this very thread:

Cadillac is already planning to launch the CTS Coupe and CTS-V Coupe together, so it’s quite possible that GM’s luxury brand is planning a surprise CTS-V Sport Wagon launch at one of the upcoming auto shows.

I'd rather see an Alpha based coupe than a CTS coupe. The CTS would be BMW M6 - sized, wouldn't it? To me a wagon should be based on as large a car as possible, while a coupe based on a large car will invariably remind me of the old Eldo. Now a coupe sized like a 135 or a 335 would be perfect (and probably wouldn't need quite so much motor for a "V".

Sorry to thread-jack, but I just found the following article that has me waiting for next Wednesday like you wouldn't believe...
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6996
John Heinricy in a CTS-V going against BMW driver Bill Auberlen in an M5...

Yes. A CTS-V Coupe would compete with BMW M6 -- at least in my eyes. And CTS Coupe should compete with the 6-series -- 630i/635i. (Yes... I know they're not sold in the US...)

There's nothing wrong with CTS competing with the 6 series. It's called proper product alignment.

There's absolutely no way CTS Coupe could ever compete with 3-series coupe. The rear of the CTS Coupe supposedly can fit a man who is 6'3"!! The rear of a 3-series coupe can probably fit a duffel bag!

I would hope that a future Cadillac Alpha-based car would also be a complete family -- sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon -- with diesels and V-series.

Re: Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon “likely”

CTC-V coupe? that starts to cut into the demographics of the corvette and xlr.

if you asked me, why dont i see a large 2 door lux coupe, i mean CL class benz big. when the hell did americans become so small? i thought 60% of this country was fat, including me.

give me a rwd dts coupe, with anything north of 400 hp.

Exactly. If it were a huge investment I'd say it's not worth the hassle, but since all the bits exist for the sedan I say why not?!?
