Re: AutoExtremist: Mid-Engined Corvette a Reality?
I thought the corvette proved that a car doesn't have to be mid-engine to be an amazing handling car and can easily take on mid-engined cars.
The corvair had the engine in the back, it wasnt mid-engine. but as in the GMi corvair contest you might remember, a mid engine corvair would be cool.

This is one of the reasons I joined this group many years ago, to exchange my views and to be educated by others that have information not readily available to me. My reasoning for questioning the Fiero was because I was helping my baby sister to get one about 1986. However the handling was so strange she ended up with a Honda CRX coupe. The article you attached did explain where in my evaluation of where Mid-Engine technology could have gone. With the addition of the production changes indicated in the article, GM could have come up with some dynamite cars in the early 1990's and by now maybe something fantastic. It does go back to my statement: "GM does start things, however they can't seem to finish them." Thanks for the enlightenment! ![]()

Re: AutoExtremist: Mid-Engined Corvette a Reality?
if gm can drop a transverse engine/tranny on a revised rear subframe and call it a mid engined car (i'm just speculating on the possible architecture) why can't they do that with a kappa, and call it a fiero? certainly 280 hp in a small mid-engined car does well - look at the boxter/cayman. for that matter, a mid-engined corvette may not even have to be a 600 hp supercar...why not something nimble and fun, with good power?
