Re: 300HP for Solstice?

Sounds like that coud be one heck of a fun car.

But does anyone know where it's 400 or so pounds over the Miata comes from? That really bogs it in the twisties...

Re: 300HP for Solstice?

Since we already know the Solstice can handle the road, this would be a good boost for the coupe.

Re: 300HP for Solstice?

I love the Coupe design of the Solstice and have definitely thought about buying it... I'd definitely buy it if small issues were addressed: 6 spd manual please and a "proper engine" ...

Proper engine = over 300 hp... twin-turbo or just one really responsive turbo... I still think a V6 TT would work really well in it.

Re: 300HP for Solstice?

If GM puts their direct injection engine in the new Pontiac Solstice coupe than I can see it making 300 HP or above. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see....

Why? To increase the curb weight and throw of the weight distribution? The Turbo Charged 2.0 Ecotec is fine. A Turo Charged 2.4 Ecotec wouldbe able to get about 320 hp. In respect to the 2.0.

But throwing a V6 in the already chubby Solstice would be just plain silly.b

They have to cut into the sub frame and suspension towers. But maybe we'll see a next gen Solstice GXP ridding on SWB ALPHA craddling a small block.

I like your idea. A Solstice with a smallblock and probably a bigger trunk if it was based on the Alpha. Of course Chevy would have a fit, but I think GM should abandon it's stupid rule of the Vette being the only v8 sportscar and allow some competition. I'll repeat it again and again that it is ridiculous that the performance division doesn't have a proper sportscar for it's flagship while the bread and butter division has a world class beater in the Vette. It would be like Volkswagen having the 911 instead of Porsche, and making sure that anything Porsche makes doesn't outperform Volkswagens top dog....just crazy

Cars have been allowed to outperform the Corvette before (though not for long). In 1969 Camaro would outrun the Vette, in 1987 Buick's Grand National would absolutely maul the Vette (and anything else built in 87), in 1991 GMC's Syclone was faster, etc. The 90s LT1, LT4, and LS1 F-bodies were very close to Vette performance levels. I think the Vette protectionism to this degree is a recent phenomenon.

Also 73-74 Super Duty Formula and Trans Am would kick 73-74 vettes. Chevy will never allow the vette to be surpassed again.

Why must Corvette be top dog? I dont understand their thinking. Also, its not like a Kappa car with a v8 would out perform the ZR1, so Vett would still be top dog.

Yeah, but I did get confirmation from some connections in China that Buick is releasing a new Skyhawk Turbo. It should be out around 2011 I believe.

The LNF, the 2.0 turbocharged engine in the GXP, does have direct injection.
