Re: 300HP for Solstice?

well...some of the stuff in this thread is funny now that info on the stage kit is clearer. The one thing that I wanted to post up about is the fact that this car is capable of making almost 400hp with an upgraded turbo. Yes I know that this is about the upgrade kit that GM is putting out and this is getting a little away from the purpose of the thread. There are just a few things that need to be said though. The 300HP thing is a step in the right direction but is NOT a limit of this engine. This motor can make 400hp with an aftermarket turbo, and still knock down upper 20's for MPG.....if you REALLY need a car with more than 300HP and you are SERIOUSLY complaining about a difference in 28mpg to 30MPG as said above.....something is wrong...you gotta pay to play.....2mpg should never be the reason why you would complain about the trans on a car....the car has 300HP, will do mid-low 13's in the 1/4 mile and you are complaining about 28MPG....sounds like you are getting a better deal thyan the vette guys with less pricey insurance.....when the ECU's are cracked there will be PLENTY of 12 second daily drivers out there.
If you are complaining about the trunk, that sucks. Maybe the hard top will be better for you, with less mechanical crap taking up the trunk's space..and If you still need a convertible with 300HP buy a used vette. This is a small sports car...not a station wagon....

Re: 300HP for Solstice?

Pontiac should look for ways to throw in a V6 Turbo in there.

WHY.....this car could made 400hp with just a turbo swap, and close to 500hp with a ported head, thicker head gasket, and some cams.....why does everyone keep thinking that more cylinders is what it needs? This seems to be more of an "I can say that I have this under my hood" as apposed to a motor that does it's job above and beyond what the other companies have done with thier similar model cars. The S200, and the Miata are gutless compared to the solstice. Adding more cylinders to this car would just be stupid, stop with trying to make this like a euro car, and give it the credit it diserves. This car is an animal when the right parts are used. Look at The hahn racecraft turbo'd BASE model solstice. That car can run low 12's with sticky tires under it, and because it isn't THAT heavy it will walk away from a lot of other cars from a roll. These cars can out corner, and out brake a ton of cars at an open track day, and simply just walk away from cars out of the corners and straights because of the amount of power they make. Just remember, it could be worse.....we could have just gotten another fiero........
Hahn turbo'd BASE model:
http://www.turbosystem.com/ProjectVe...eStage3pdf.htm
The LNF turbo motor has a full point lower in the compression department than the LE5 motor that is in the Hahn Racecraft turbo's solstice. The motor is also designed for forced induction, and has cams to support a turbo...the LE5 does not. There is room to make more power, you just have to be smart about it.

Re: 300HP for Solstice?

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but I believe GM is working on a 315hp stage 1 kit for the 2.0L engine in the Solstice/Cobalt/Sky/HHR. The factory warranty will remain intact.

That would actually be a good idea for the Solstice/Sky. I always have wanted more power in the Solstice than it currently has with the I4 turbo but if it gets a V6 that would be perfect.

The only way it would get that HP would be if GM put a small-block V8 in it. 500 hp out of an I4 would be EXTREMELY difficult.

Re: 300HP for Solstice?

Hello, its nice that you are all so optimistic, but the reality is the LNF engine is going to stay. GM has no money for a V6 or a V8 development. 300 hp reliable performance is very respectful for this sports car, if you want more there are many companies that will help you out, Hahn, Werks, Mallet. Were lucky if the Solstice stays in production with all this bail out talk. The Fed may cram a hybrid in your future. So buy one now while you can and mod it the way you want. its a great car that has proven itself on the track and thats want we all want, right. Thanks Norm
