This is awesome news. I sat in one at the Buick dealer the other day, was getting the keyfob replaced. The interior is very nicely done. It's reasonably priced, just underpowered.

The Encore could use the 1.6 turbo, at least as an option.

People on GMI always ask for more power - but in the Encore's case I think the whining sounds justifiable. The reviews have said 138 HP is enough to drive it competently ... but I'm skeptical how it would really fare with 3 passengers and some stuff in the back.

I'll agree with that. I also think that the Trax should have a 6 speed AWD version even if it is "only" the 1.4T.

The Encore is DOA if it's underpowered. Power is important to buyers. That will make it another seller for Buick GM, US wise any way.

No,it isn't. If it was then 90% of midsized sedans wouldn't be 4 cylinders.

Re: 2014 Buick Verano Going Total Turbo?

The Zafira Tourer seems to be the first one to get the new SIDI 1,6 l engine plus the new 1,6 l diesel engine as well.
The newest pricelists now mention those engines. You can order them, but delivery isn't before March.
    The 1,6 SIDI delivers 125kW/170hp and 260Nm (MT6) or 280Nm (AT6). The 1,6 CDTI delivers 99kW/135hp and 320Nm.
    (260/280/320 Nm = 192/207/236 lbft)
In earlier press info GM gives power rating as high as 200hp and torquefigures up to 236 lbft, so very promising.

As far as fuel consumption concerns: the CO2 figure goes up from 144 gr/km to 154 gr/km compared to the 1,4 l 140hp version, so an increase with 7%, but you get a much nicer engine and much livelier car.

I can't see GM using the OLD 1.6 Turbo for the Verano, it has to be getting the NEW 1.6T. As avdberg pointed out it, the NEW 1.6T makes 170/192, 170/207, or 197/221. Hopefully the Buick will get the 197/221 version. And all three versions have Stop/Start witch improve MPG by 13% vs the OLD 1.6T and most likely provide even larger fuel savings vs the 2.4L

Re: 2014 Buick Verano Going Total Turbo?

It seems that it depends on where you are reading as to whether the 1.6T coming to the Verano is the old one or the new one. I sure hope it's the new one. Better h.p., much more torque and better fuel economy. It would be a huge mistake to use the old one. I'm also hoping they bring over the GTC and make the new 1.6T the base engine.

Precisely, It's not a midsized sedans, it's an SUV that should be able to pull at least one jet ski

Look, the Encore will be a total failure unless they add the Gen V to it.

I was apprehensive about the car (2 year lease, nice deal w/ the maint incl), but now understand the draw to people like me with commutes but who don't like being stuck in a penalty box. MORE power would only make the car better than it already is.
If your cruising at 100MPH why would a car be out of breath? Steady state speed any car should be okay....? It's when you accelerate HARD that you are really pushing the engine to perform.

In fact, GM has flat-out told dealers that Encore is not meant to and was never intended to have any towing capabilities whatsoever.
