Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

if this is true then it's a bad idea IMO. The last thing Chrysler needs is another brand (especially a brand that is like GMC) What Chrysler should be doing is use the three brands it currently has and use their connections with Fiat to get some new models into showrooms

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

I don't see an advantage. Dodge cars might not have the best reputation or image but people seem to trust their trucks.

GMC has the image strength to exist alongside Chevrolet

This makes sense only if the purpose is to get the Ram off the ship before it goes down. If Dodge is going to stick around, this is folly.

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

This is really ridiculous.

Just plain no. The last thing we need is a GMC competitor.

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

I agree. NOOOOOOOOOO!

Its illogical & impractical.
Completely unnecessary.

The only reason I can see this happening is to eventually kill off Dodge & Chrysler.
Then be left w/Jeep & Ram.
But as I said....completely unnecessary.

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

Almost ironically, this is a sign of management that hasn't a clue about branding. Dodge trucks have been around for decades, well before the name 'Ram' was effer affixed to a tailgate. I've seldom heard bar-room contests come down to arguments about Silverado, F, and Ram -- it's Chevy, Ford, and Dodge. Heck, many Nascar fans are pickup buyers. They don't relate to "Ram" any more than the Nascar faithful relate to Impala, Fusion, or Charger. Sure, there's loads of equity in "F-150" and "Ram" ... but that's not cause to eliminate the make from the branding.

In a word, branding the trucks "Ram" is Dumb.

I like that you are pretty much saying hick NASCAR fans would be too dumb to realize what happened, and disconnected from Dodge, they would never realize Rams are the same thing. I couldn't agree more, it would be too much for the NASCAR crowd to handle.

I don't think this is a good idea. Leave Dodge alone.

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

Why would four brands be needed? or is it five?

Chrysler?
Dodge?
Jeep?
Ram?
Alfa Romeo?

Alfa I definitely agree with..
Jeep too...
Chrysler ? Not sure...maybe just the 300C, 200C and town and country Mini van..?

Dodge can go low with Hornet and other fiat based economy cars.. and maybe a dodge charger and challenger ? But what point is the charger or challenger?

I don't really get the "plan"

Maybe its distribution plan is?

Alfa? Jeep? or Alfa, Ram?
Maybe its Alfa Jeep and Ram dealers? and then

Chrysler, Dodge Jeep distribution?

Well, I wasn't trying to imply that they're too dumb to realize what happened. My point was that they, like typical pickup buyers, relate to the make more than the model name.

Imagine Ford trucks losing "Ford" ... just not a smart move.

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

Dodge - Trucks
Chrysler - low-mid range cars & minivan
Alfa Romeo - luxury cars
Jeep - well, Jeeps

The Alfa cars should only be sold through the best Chrysler dealers that know how to keep customers happy and not have their own solo outlets.

Ram as a brand? Someone wake Chrysler up from this long running nightmare........

If you don't want to imply it, I will! lol I understand what you are saying, but putting aside the fact that it really doesn't make sense to do it, I think it is just ridiculous how people are so blindly loyal and tied up in nameplates. The truck crowd is the worst, they need to get out of 1960 and realize that at the end of the day, no matter if it wears a Bowtie or an Oval, life will go on if the guy two trailers down buys the competition's model.

Re: Will Chrysler make Ram its fourth brand?

"How do you like my new Ram Dakota?" says Dude1.

"Don't you mean Dodge Dakota?" replies Dude2.

"Nope, they're Ram now." answers Dude1.

Dude2: "I thought you meant a full-size?"

Dude1: "Nawww. Had to settle for the little Ram, I couldn't afford the Ram Ram."

Given Ram Ram, and it's obvious ties to the Flintstones, when the Ram Ram drops its tranny are you left w/ Pebbles?
