Potential 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall Angers Chrysler

Potential 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall Angers Chrysler

A major fight is brewing between Chrysler and the Center for Auto Safety, which is demanding that the government recall as many as 2.3 million Jeep Grand Cherokees because of a possible fire hazard.

I agree with Chrysler on this one. For the government to look at a spreadsheet and say that there have been X amount of fires when a car has rear ended this vehicle without looking at other data sets is just ridiculous.

I am sure though that Chrysler doesn't want any bad press as this updated model is their biggest release post bk.

First: The Center for Auto Safety is NOT the government. Its a private and independent advocacy group.

Second: Don't believe all the corporate mumbo jumbo. If the NHTSA thinks there are merits they will conduct an investigation they will issue a recall if they findings call for one. But a higher rate of fires than the Pinto in this day and age with all the safety advances we have these days sounds pretty horrible.

Why people still buys these BOF things for city drive and commuting is beyond me . . .

The Grand Cherokee is unibody, not BOF.

1. Whoops, not the government, though I am sure there is some government money in there somewhere.

2. Accidents are violent, but lets wait till it gets further before jump to any conclusions.

3. People like to sit up higher, people like to be able to whatever whenever, even though most never do. Otherwise they do it because they want to.

I'm thinking if this was a real issue it would have been brought to light earlier than 15 years after the first vehicle in the timeframe rolled off the assembly line.

Yes indeed.

The CAS is a bunch of troublemakers like Clarence Ditlow, Jill Claybrook, and other Naderite do-gooder malcontents.

Just remember what the road to hell is paved with.

Do not mistake them for a fed agency, although I'm sure many of them are in bed together and drink the same kool aid week after week, month after month, year after year.

Having said all that, our fearless Public Guardians and Caretakers in Worshington are far behind the power curve on vehicle fires. Long ago they should have mandated fuel cells or something similar that uses racing safe technology to cut down on fires.

BTW, diesel is a far safer fuel should it leak out after a wreck.

I can't imagine a more terrifying incident than a wreck-fire. Possibly with the exception of seeing Barney Frank in a dark alley.

Unibody.

This is why...Neon vs. Grand Cherokee.

Why people risk their lives in little tiny cars to save a little gas is beyond me.
Unlike SUV haters, I'm not calling for a ban of little tiny cars.

It'd prolly be cheaper to pay the lawsuits than to recall the Jeeps...
