Re: Plymouth Appreciation Thread
My family has owned a few Plymouths. My Grandparents had a 1972 Fury sedan. My uncle had a 1971 Satellite coupe. And my parents had a 1979 Horizon, a 1980 Volare sedan, and a 1992 Grand Voyager.
Here are photos of my grandparents' Fury and my parents' Volare. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Joe McKinney : 10-26-2009 at 08:35 PM. |

Turismo!
![]() My brother had almost all the K-car sport hatches at one time or another. Daytona, Laser, and Turismo. All cheap used vehicles he found easy to maintain. What is wrong with that?

Re: Plymouth Appreciation Thread
This is about the era my appreciation stops. Nothing more from Plymouth was remotely worth appreciating IMO.
Kick ass car though!

Re: Plymouth Appreciation Thread
Fiat should dig into the CHC (Chrysler Heritage Coffers) and offer an "Espresso" trim level on their models. Perhaps Italians would find that cheesy, they can keep their Active, Fresh and Dynamic there.

Re: Plymouth Appreciation Thread
My mom learned to drive on a 68 Fury III. She hated that car. God, what I wouldn't give to have been in her shoes!
That car belonged to my maternal Grandfather. Growing up, my paternal Grandfather had a 1977 Plymouth Fury Salon with a 318. Gold with a tan vinyl top. I don't recall riding in that car all that much, but he kept it for something like 14 years. Plymouth made a lot of cool cars back in the day, many of which are highlighted here. Barracuda's, GTX,'s, the Road Runner and Superbird. I think my personal favorite would be the 70 Fury GT. I love the C bodies and even today it's a clean looking car. Sadly, Plymouth may be gone, but it's not forgotten.

The Fury III was several years before me, though - by the time I came around the only Mopar present was the aforementioned Omni. ![]()

Re: Plymouth Appreciation Thread
Plymouth was always an odd one. They were really nice looking in the 1930s and early 1940s. Then they got severely dowdy. It wasn't until 1956 that they became interesting to look at. Then 1957 happened and, well Jesus if that wasn't one of the best looking car designs of all time. Then 1959 arrived and the magic was gone. 1960 and 1961 were abhorrent, both for fullsize cars and the new compact. Then things went from bad to worse when the fullsize cars got downsized for 1962. It wasn't until the 1966 Satellite that Plymouth started to look good again. And the GTX and Roadrunner from the late 1960s were tasteful and crisp.
I also have a warm spot for the fuselage look that started in 1969 and the Duster. I'll have a followup post of the photos of what I think were the best looking Plymouths. |
