Re: The new Chrysler 500

The video looked like fun, I could tell the reporter was having a good time in both the MINI and the FIAT 500. The point made about the 500 being alive was very telling, and if we get the high performance model it should sell well here in the USA.

That's top 10 best sellers overall; the Astra and Focus are family cars there, and all three of those are larger overall. It may look like they kick the crap out of it but as it's the top 10 the 500 sold more than a lot of other cars.

BTW Ford's version is the Ka.

Maybe the european Astra is better than the one we had here as the saturn..

maybe its the new astra?
You say that as though the Saturn Astra was bad, which it wasn't - it wasn't right for our market, not in the form it was and not at the time.

The Opel/Vauxhall of the same generation Astra that came here as a Saturn were better than ours because they offered much more overall. More bodystyles, more powertrains, more features, etc. But the standards are different there.

The astra and the focus and the fiesta? are family cars in europe due to the price of fuel and the tax system? Thanks for the insight..

and thanks for the heads up on the ford Ka..which is the vehicle that is built along side the fiat 500 with some differentials...I'm sure...

How does that car sell in comparison to the retro 500? I'm just curious if you happen to know..

Was I saying something bad about the american version of the astra? Not really...as a matter of fact...I had recently seen a neighbors visitor from out of state in a hot red Saturn Astra coupe and the mid 40's ? gentleman had arrived early in the day and was washing the saturn for his friend or family to view his new car..

It was really very sharp and I would have gladly owned such a fine looking and sporty vehicle.. I think the msrp was probably 20 grand.. and honestly if I were shopping in that price range...I probably would have chosen the VW GTI with DSG as a more satisfying drive...(even though its probably 5 grand more expensive)

I believe and again..its just an opinion....that fiat should NOT leave the european tiny little base wheels...(14,15 inch rims) and offer larger diameter wheels as standard...with width being the variable for more expensive options...

I've seen it thousands of times...with economy cars...coming to the USA that failed and usually it seems that those with larger diameter wheels...seem to be better recieved by the american public..

sounds like a crazy insight...

I really do like the fiat 500 and want to see it succeed...

Hell I might even buy one as a city car...

To be more specific, they have more of a role as family cars there while they are mostly just economy cars here, for much of the reasons you stated. Midsize-ish models serve as family cars as well, but even the Focus-size models can often be equipped at least as well if not better than a Malibu or Fusion here.

I do not know but I'm interested as well.

I didn't think you were, it just sounded a little bit that way. It's cool

I understand what you mean. 14" is probably pretty appropriate for the 500 - I believe it's smaller than even the Mini in most exterior dimensions except for height. 14" on a lower trim, 15" upper should be pretty good, as long as they don't look small I think they'll be OK.

OMFG! HOW????

This is the actual news! The Indian-built Hyundai Crapola Wagon beat the Panda, Ka, Twingo, 107, C1, Aygo, Yaris etc...
