I like them. I drove one for a while and I was sad to see it go.

Re: Jeep Commander dead

will not miss it one bit It was redundant when it came out and it's even more redundant and useless now. Especially with the 7 seat next gen durango on the way the commander would have been a hindrance to that models sales. In addition the fuel economy on this model was medicore at best when equipped with either V8

Re: Jeep Commander dead

It would have been nice had it been much more upscale to compete with the Land Rovers

Re: Jeep Commander dead

If someone wanted a Jeep with three-row seating, what makes people think they'll just jump right into a Durango?

Re: Jeep Commander dead

I remember calling it "the poor man's Hummer". And that never left my mind.

I hope whoever is running Chrysler figures out what they're doing. Jeep, despite all the crap they've thrown at it, still has a positive image. One would think the company formerly known as Chrysler would work to move more of them.

The same mindset that thinks Pontiac owners/buyers will switch to Chevys.

I disagree, I think Pontiac and Chevy will have more cross shoppers as many Pontiac owners will be more enthusiast related and will therefore be more likely to know the Chevys are the same vehicle. My thought is Jeep is seen as a brand to itself (i.e. not related to Dodge/Chrysler) and I bet Dodge or Chrysler doesn't see much cross shopping with Jeep. Just my thoughts, I don't have any facts to back me up.

Re: Jeep Commander dead

New Durango is based on the 2011 Grand Cherokee, so it will probably be 5 times the SUV it is now, and that, I am sure will be enough to sway any Commander owner.

Re: Jeep Commander dead

Too many products based on the ML.

That being said, the jury is still out on the ML based Grand and they are pretty tight with data. It may seem that "trail rated" is going to be Mercedes trail-rated which means the low-slung GT-900s will be about as good off-road with an experienced driver.

We looked at the Commander and the Grand when buying our '07. We bought the Grand because we didn't need the extra size and I couldn't stand the faux cap screws all over the place. I'm impressed with our '07 but it is a far cry from the SFA '01. Better on-road, worse off.

Oh well, at least pickups haven't been gelded.

Re: Jeep Commander dead

Good riddance. The Commander was a fat excuse for a Jeep that never hit the mark.

Re: Jeep Commander dead

The Commander wasn't big enough.
It should have been a direct competitor to the Suburban/Yukon XL & the Expedition L.
Instead, it was more closely in size w/the Trailblazer/Envoy.
Bad move.
