Chrysler is having a multi-hour, marathon news conference today to reveal their plan for survival and reinvention.
I'll post the updates as they happen. So far (from Inside Line): Ram Brand: Mid-size Pickup: The Dodge Dakota will die for the 2011 model year and be replaced by a unibody-based midsize truck of apparently U.S. origin. Full-size Pickup: The light-duty, heavy-duty and chassis-cab versions of the what we know as the Ram pickup truck will continue on as planned. All of them will get major (and unspecified) modifications for 2012. Vans: A new large commercial van will arrive on the scene for 2012, using a platform from the Fiat Group. A small commercial van will also arrive for 2012 and will be produced by the Fiat Group and imported into the U.S. Last edited by Buick61 : 11-04-2009 at 11:45 AM. |

Re: The Chrysler 5-year plan thread (Viper, Dakota DEAD)
I was on location over there just now and it's crazy over there. Fiatsler really pulled out all the stops when it came to security for this event. They have police at every single entry point and chrysler security goons in there grey GC's doing more patrols than usual) There were even protesters today as well. The website www.Carbuyerbeware.com had two banner towing airplanes flying over CTC. One banner said that "Fiat/Chrysler are bailout bandits" wheras the second plane towed the URL (which can be seen in the pic below)

Re: The Chrysler 5-year plan thread (Viper, Dakota DEAD)
It is encouraging that Chrysler-FIAT has put the plan down in writing as this is the best way to focus and remember promises made to the buyers. I downloaded the 37 page PDF to my computer for future reference (love the PDF format). The side profile of the Dodge Charger is a good one and the Instrument panel will be stiff competition for the FORD Taurus.
Overall, for the brief information submitted I am expecting good things to show up in Chrysler showrooms by the 2011 model year. ![]()

OK, so no new logo for Dodge Cars? OTOH, Ram and Dodge are separate in the Quality presentation, but the Chrysler wings are old'uns...

Re: The Chrysler 5-year plan thread (Viper, Dakota DEAD)
So if I read the presentation correctly, they are going to support future growth via outsourcing the engineering? (see slide 14 out of 15 in the business dev. plan)
