Would a Mustang-based Lincoln look like this?

Lincoln Continental Mark X1 ConceptDesigner Josiah LaCalla has taken a stab at what a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln model might look like with the Continental Mark X1 concept. Make no mistake, Ford's luxury arm has made it abundantly clear that it won't be pursuing any new products outside of volume models, which means a flashy halo grand tourer like the one you see here isn't in the cards. LaColla used the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as a basis for his creation, which explains the long nose, but we certainly don't mind the idea of a rear-wheel drive Lincoln with a cabin pushed to the aft.

While we're dreaming, there's certainly nothing stopping us from imagining what's under that lengthy hood. We like the idea of the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 from the Shelby GT500 pushing the Mark X1 down the road, but how about something a little more inventive? Something like a high-revving, buttery V12 with enough torque to push the contraption well past 200 miles per hour. Dream a little dream, people.

I hope the front end wouldn't look like that design. The rest of the car looks fine.

Love the overall shape. However, the grill and beak just doesn't do it for me.

If the current flow and design of the MKZ translated onto the front of that, it would be a very attractive car.

Looks great, but even if Ford were opening up the funding spigot I bet they wouldn't build something that exotic looking.

I agree. I like the stance and it would certainly inject some excitment into Lincoln.

    Only if...

U-G-L-Y!! That monstrosity would be a greater death knell for Lincoln than almost anything Ford could think up.

Reminds me of that custom made car that was built using a Pontiac Fiero as a base. It had a long hood and short deck and a waterfall grill. Anyone remember what it was called? Some were actually built and sold.

    I feel almost the opposite

I see the overall car as just the MKR skin stretched over the SLS
(so unoriginal most amateur choppers would avoid that)
    &
with the exception of the "squinty" continuing the grille onto the hood
    the vertical slats LOOK GREAT
    esp in the side shot

imho a properly done waterfall grille is just streamlining (a good thing) a function-over-form (another good thing) air opening with minimal-tho-exquisite style

    here ya go
I went to the guy's site

imho this grille is actually BETTER than the MKZ's - the overall shape is less fussy
(and a bit like one I chopped for a LincStang)
tho I DO NOT like the Mazda-envy sheetmetal-bumps over the front wheel
