well, we didn't get any Merc details :pout:
& I'm keeping my speculating to a minimum
'cept to quote part of my "Pick Six" post elsewhere
...
#5 Kuga (reeaally needs new name! esp. if it's a Merc!!!)
#6 is/are the unique-bodied Mercury C2's: sedan(sorta) + that "whitespace vehicle" (which I agree with Jobu, no one should talk about ...yet )
( ^ which don't include the cabrio - that'll be a Lincoln if that fad isn't over by then)
('Capri' = Merc's C2 sorta-sedan with a mega-BAMR pkg)

Re: Mercury Death Cancelled

I say we put a campaign together like they did for Family Guy and get the Death of Mercury uncancelled!

Re: Mercury Death Cancelled

So Mercury can take Lincoln's current, pitiful place and Lincoln can start driving towards the position formerly held by Jaguar, right? America needs more luxury brands!

No, Mercury will sell the small premium cars and Lincoln will sell the larger premium vehicles. There will be an overlap with the Milan/MKZ....Unless the Milan becomes a coupe/'vert.

I always liked Mercury because I thought they were a "little different" from other brands. To me, I always kind of liked the "off beat" brands a bit more from their higher-volume counter parts.

So it's not like I dont appreciate Chevy or Ford, but for me, I was always drawn more to Pontiac or Mercury or Saab, etc.

And not just with American cars. I'm a bit of an Italophile (blame my immigrant parents) and grew up learning about Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, DeTomaso, Cistalia, etc. So while I loved Alfas, there was always a huge part of me that always cheered on Lancia because it was a "little different", elegant, and nearly as sporty as Alfa Romeo, etc.

Maybe that's why I like Mercury?

Mostly I think it has to do with the fact that Mercury has "potential" to be something more than what it is. And Ford (at least to now) has quandered that opportunity to sell products to those customers who would NEVER consider a Ford branded product and find Lincolns too expensive.

Re: Mercury Death Cancelled

I always had a thing for Alfas as a kid and never grew out of it. I tend to prefer the eccentric as well (though I own a base model wagon in white ). Lets hope that they can create some of that oddity that raises the eye brow rather than just small cars on which they can charge a premium, because that's where marketing pitches the brand.
