Hybrid Escort with Volt's Batteries by 2010

Ford to bring back ESCORT in 2010 with 100 mpg Hybrid

Quote:
Ford is invested in the U.S. Advanced Battery Consortium and is focusing most of its attention on A123 systems nanophosphate Lithium-Ion batteries to reach it’s expected 100 miles per gallon target. A123Systems high power battery technology is based on new highly active nanoscale materials that are inexpensive, nontoxic, extremely stable (Non Explosive) and quick charging. The new batteries are expected to have a life of 10 years and 150,000 miles.

Ford is in race with GM to bring out the new Escort before the Chevy Volt hits the market in 2010. Alan Mulally Ford’s new CEO realizes that Ford needs to hang on to their perceived lead in domestic Hybrid technology first developed and introduced for the Ford Escape.

I wonder how credible NewEnergyNetwork is ... otherwise this is EXCELLENT NEWS ... US sources technology - GM and FOrd cooperating (to someextent) and both planning a breakthrough hybrid ..

I hope this is true.

If Ford builded this car unchanged as a total ev this could outsell the prius and put it in a good competition against the volt

I really don't think Ford will beat GM to punch on this one. GM just annouced the Volt this year and was well into the deisgn before that.
Its like VW saying they will outsell Toyota in 2015

no they will not beat GM - GM said they will have Volt out in late 2009 no?

besdies - this is not volt competition - this wil be a standard single-mode parallel hybrid .. not a series hybrid - both will be Plug-ins and both will use the same batteries - but that is where it ends ... Ford is aiming at Honda and Toyota .. not Gm at this point .

Ford may do well bring back the escort name. I think that reusing names is good.
