Re: Fusion I4 Fuel Economy: What Gives?
Yeah, concepts can be clear indicators, but I believe that the 1.6 EB is coming

Re: Fusion I4 Fuel Economy: What Gives?
Yeah but you could also argue that this generation of Fusion wont get any DI or ecoboost before the merged platform with the Mondeo. I mean I believe Ford has already invested heavily in this updated '10 model and wont bother with any more engine choices.
Thats just my opintion of what I "think" Ford will do. And also from prior let downs with the FoMoCo on delivering certain products. I just dunno. I bet the focus with EB is on the "focus" and the larger vehicles with the 3.5

Re: Fusion I4 Fuel Economy: What Gives?
It goes beyond concepts. Ford has had several press releases pledging to make EcoBoost engines available in over 90% of their North American lineup by 2013. Since the EcoBoost V6 is only suitable for larger cars this means there must be a smaller engine (four cylinder) offered in smaller cars to ensure the EcoBoost coverage they're claiming.

Re: Fusion I4 Fuel Economy: What Gives?
The base S is lighter and uses smaller lower rolling resistance 16" tires. There may also be a difference in gearing. The 6 speed stick uses a 4.38:1 ratio for instance so the automatic SE and SEL may uses a wilder ratio than the S model for peppier performance. Ford also does this on the new 2010 Taurus with the better models pulling snappier gears.
