The Duramax saved GM HD's.

There is a reason why all the big 3 have sourced diesels.......
Not so, Ford has built many diesels, such as Ford 7.8L, FORD 8.3 250, or this one http://www.truckpaper.com/listings/d...3ABB0A8B879F0C

I know some people that still don't trust the Duramax because of the 350 diesel.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the 7.8L a New Holland engine in a Ford truck/tractor and the 8.3L a Cummins enigne in a Ford truck/tractor??

Re: [FORD]: NEW Scorpion V8 Diesel for Super Duty

UPDATE:

The Scorpion is testing in at :
400 HP @ 3500 rpm. 700 ft lbs @ 1600 rpm

It is using the same Peugot / Ford technology the new 4.4l V8 Diesel will be using.

A while ago Navistar was suing Ford for making a diesel based on it's Peugeot/Ford technology. How the hell did they know about that?

Amazing numbers BTW, best thing is it has nothing to do with Navistar anymore.

Hell not bad 50hp and 50 more of torque than the current 6.4 not bad,I just hope Ford beats the hell out of this new Scorpion doing a lot of test before the engine hits the assembly line so any future defect can be caught

Sounds good, and Ford has always made pretty good engines, with the exception of the 3.8 Essex, they had better test the **** out of this one and not rush it, I would love to see them pull it off.

*ahem* Close to 142,000 original miles and still going strong. Synthetic oil and a cooling system in good condition goes a long way. I'm sure you can find a worse Ford engine, like the 255 Windsor.

Those numbers are nice, but it will be a few years untill it is released and Dodge and GM only have a few less ponies and torque than the Scorpion. I imagine all 3 will continue to have almost the same ratings for a while to come.

Hmm...I guess thats true. I thought the 3.8's were known for having headgasket issues by 100K?

the only voice that said anything about GM and DCX NOT moving on with their diesels byu 2012 was the little paranoid voice inside your head ..

I never said anything to that extent.

if you re-read the thread you will see that you tried to put those words in my mouth before ... give up finally.

Re: [FORD]: NEW Scorpion V8 Diesel for Super Duty

Navistar has some great 6cyl diesels that are respected, reliable, and clean.
Ford is trying to beat GM in the HP war, rather than pummeling Dodge in the towing war.

It was an Olds 350, and while it was bad, it saved massive amounts of R&D costs and they make a great foundation for killer Olds projects.

The diesel wars are fueled by a consumer desire for big block gas engine power, big-rig torque, and reasonable fuel economy. While I'm all in favor big torque numbers and CDL weight ratings, the hit on fuel economy is getting a bit much.

Deere and CAT make great diesels. Too bad the Hot Rod HP wars are over shadowing the mileage and towing benefits of low RPM 6-cyl diesels.
