WOW, kidding aside, I think they have a great name here. Although it does not have the "hemi" equity, it does sound bad-ass.

no more details right now, but I will kee you posted.

This is great news with a great name.

I have to wonder though if Ford neglected the 6.4 during final testing to concentrate more on the new Scorpion. If the 6.4 turns out anything like the 6.0, it won't matter how good the Scorpion is.

Is there any clue how soon we may see this engine?

Ford is post injecting fuel after the combustion event as a means of dosing the diesel oxidation catalyst with hydrocarbons. Regeneration of the DPF is done to burn out the soot that accumulates which essentially self cleans the filter and reduces the backpressure. The post injections only occur at low load conditions where the exhaust itself is not hot engouh to make the DPF regenerate on its own. They've probably discovered that they are forcing these active regenerations at too high of load which is causing excessive temps. This will change the number of regenerations that occur and over the life of the vehicle which will probably affect filter life.
It could very well be, but they should be able to get the regeneration temps, somewhere between cutting torch, and to cold to do the job.

You don't know very much about them do you? Navistar is one heck of a diverse corporation that makes everything from school buses to fire truck chassis. The ford contract is but a minor portion of their sales.

True, they pretty much own the 19000-33000 GVWR truck segment.

Can't doesn't do truck engine and Detroit Diesel or more or less merged into Mercedes diesel. If do don't something for Dodge, I doubt they're going to build ford an engine.

Re: [FORD]: NEW Scorpion V8 Diesel for Super Duty

Ford has been making engines for a long time. I am sure they have studied Diesels carefully and can certainly make one that is not only more competitive, but free of all the QC issues, because their processes are improving all the time.

But none of them have been making diesels for a long time, or any period of time. Diesel engines are a whole different science.

GM tried making a 350 into one.....ouch, and the 6.5, ouch again. Although there are some 6.5 GM diesel fanatics out there.

The Duramax saved GM HD's.

There is a reason why all the big 3 have sourced diesels.......
