[FORD]: Dual Clutch Transmissions are Here

OK we have heard of Ford/Volvo and Gertrag (Ford subsidiary) working together on a Dual Clutch robotic transmissions .. right?

They are to debut this fall in the diesel S40/V50 Volvos ..

Well it turns out Ford is not working on a SINGLE transmission .. they have 3 (EDIT: 4) officially and one I know of from inside:

the transmissions will be named PowerShift in Ford's lingo:

THE FIRST MODELS
450: FWD AWD up to 331 ft.lbs http://www.getrag.com/434

KEY BENEFITS
  • Powershift combines all advantages of manual and automatic transmissions
  • No interruption of traction when shifting thus excellent shiftability
  • Improved response and acceleration compared to 5-/6-speed automatics
  • Low fuel consumption
  • All Wheel Drive capability
APPLICATIONS/TIMING
  • Front Wheel driven and All Wheel driven vehicles in compact, medium size and upper medium size car segment as well as Sports Utility Vehicles
  • Planned Job 1 in 2007
470: FWD AWD up to 347 ft.lbs http://www.getrag.com/436

KEY BENEFITS
  • Driving dynamics without shifting – sporty and comfortable
  • No interruption of traction when shifting thus excellent shift quality
  • Improved response and acceleration compared to 5-/6-speed automatics
  • Low fuel consumption
  • Extreme short design
APPLICATIONS/TIMING
  • Front Wheel driven and All Wheel driven vehicles in compact, medium size and upper medium size car segment as well asSports Utility Vehicles
  • Planned Job 1 in 2007
OTHER MODELS:
250: 6speed FWD max 185 ft.lbs: http://www.getrag.com/427
600: 7speed RWD max 442 ft.lbs: http://www.getrag.com/455

EDIT:
Ford Fan found another one:
750 7speed front/mid enigne max 553ft.lbs http://www.getrag.com/456

Finally internally I was told of a PowerShift 175 model - a cheaper version of the 250 being prepped for US applications ... if the Gertrag and Powershift numbering system is the same the 175 will handle up to 140 ft.lbs. My sources say the Powershift175 will debut in the Fiesta - late 2008/early 2009.

Other applications of the PowerShift line are quite likely ...

Re: [FORD]: Dual Clutch Transmissions Here

So when you say FWD AWD, does that mean that the transfer case is integrated with the AWD version?

Great stuff Igor. You need your own website I think. I log in here daily to read what I hope is more new product info from you!!!

Keep up the good work.

no idea about the transfer case .. I am not techincally skilled enough ..
but the FWD/AWD transmissions are for Transverse engines.

the RWD tranny ias actually for a mid engine application ... god knows what that will go into.

Shelby GR-1?

Ah well, guess this means the JV transmission is just a placeholder.

Nice! I notice that they can be had with a wide spread between the ratios too, could do great for fuel economy.

Look at what I found:

http://www.getrag.com/456

Sounds expensive as hell.. wonder what they're planning to do with that.

Well VW charges at least 1k to upgrade to the DSG, so the price of automatics are going up...again.

this soulds like a DIESEL tranny to me ... and we should not forget - these will go to FoMoCO vehicles .. no just Ford NA

Re: [FORD]: Dual Clutch Transmissions are Here

Sounds like a nice option for the Land Rover diesels, but I have no idea how DSGs and off-roading mix.

The 7-speed RWD DSG looks like something the Mustang would use.

The 470 would probably be a not-so-smart move, The MKS is going to have twin turbos and people will mess with the PSI post for more power.

Are you sure these are for Ford? I know other automakers like BMW use Getrag as well.

Re: [FORD]: Dual Clutch Transmissions are Here

Ford owns 50% of Getrag Transmissions, I think they can use any of these whenever they want.

Besides, why would BMW want a 7-speed FWD transmission? They're not putting a 7-spd transmission in a Mini.

Re: [FORD]: Dual Clutch Transmissions are Here

Nissan also used Getrag trannys for the previous Skyline GTR, so the upcomming one just might have one of these transmisssions. And a 7 speed FWD transmission? Its probably for Mondeno ST, MKS and other higher priced Fords. Volvo S80 or next gen S60 maybe?
