Ford to Bring Back The EDSEL Division To Replace Jag and Mercury
April 7, 2008 Ford announced that as part of its Way Foward Plan that it will bring back a historic nameplate to replace the Jaguar Brand that was sold to Tata Motors. The new Edsel division will be slotted above Lincoln. Lincoln will be the volume leader of the luxuary brands that Ford owns. As such Ford announced that Mercury will be phased out over the next three years. Edsel will have one car to start with at launch. This new car from what is currently knowen is that it will be based off the 2012 Ford Mustang Platform and will have independent rear on it. The car will come in both 2 and 4 doors. It will resemble the 4 door mustang concept that was leaked a few months ago but with a updated edsel grill.
![]() http://www.muscularmustangs.com/imag...nsedan3.jpgThe orginal photo as a mustang was to throw people off the trail of what Ford was really about to do, reintroduce Edsel. By calling it a Ford, they got feedback and no one knew the car was going to be an Edsel. The second car will be based off the Ford Interceptor Concept, but with a more Edsel upscale look to it. Image an upscale look to this babby so sexy, you would divorce your wife for it! |

Re: Ford to Bring Back The EDSEL Division To Replace Jag and Mercury
Well this sounds like a "Bold Move" that Ford WOULD do in view of Mercury dying a slow death, wonderful Fords of Europe NOT being brought here, plus selling off Jag just as it finds its feet again.

Re: Ford to Bring Back The EDSEL Division To Replace Jag and Mercury
wounder if the ford family might decide to sell its stake in the company. they have said they are open to all ideas inorder to help the company. bottom line i think that the ford family cares more about the company then aboout making a big windfall for themselves to some point. I think by bringing back the Edsel division to replace Jag would be a smart move.

Re: Ford to Bring Back The EDSEL Division To Replace Jag and Mercury
in realty the cost would be next to nothing since Ford can simply just make any current Mercury dealer a Edsel dealer thus not dealer issues by ending Mercury. One could say Ford is just renaming Mercury to Edsel and bringing it up market to Jag.

Bad joke and late. I think that the Edsel name is going to need another 50 years before Ford ever decides to resurrect it.

Re: Ford to Bring Back The EDSEL Division To Replace Jag and Mercury
Instead of Edsel, Ford would have more success with naming the brand Mullally

Re: Ford to Bring Back The EDSEL Division To Replace Jag and Mercury
This would have been a bad joke if it were posetd on April 1st. Since it's a week late, it's just a terrible joke.
![]() Now bringing back the Model T is funny no matter what day of the year it is. ![]()
