Re: Ford 6.2L Official numbers are out
Theyve worked hard keeping afloat during this recession so i think ford deserves a standing ovation. Ford deserves to be the Automaker of the year for 2010, hands down.
Yes im a GM man but hey ford has worked hard for this (considering avoiding bailout money, scorpion diesel engine, taurus, and several other highlights) and they deserve it.

Re: Ford 6.2L Official numbers are out
After all these years Ford makes a worthy truck engine! Bravo Ford. The power levels are about what I expected, very similar to GM's 16v 6.2L. Now Ford pretty please put this motor in a Grand Marquis for me? With cherries on top?

Time for the Corvette Engine to "trickle down".

Re: Ford 6.2L Official numbers are out
Well it's about time. Kind of funny output figures though. 411 horsepower and not 410 or 412? Still, good to see it's almost ready. It blows away the 6.8L V10 in horsepower and has almost 95% of its torque. Here's the official Ford press release:

The Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Towne Car will likely be "built out" with the old tired 2V 4.6L. Same for the E-Series. Neither will likely even get the new 5.0L. |

"Key specifications of the FR Raptor XT include:
•500-hp (est.) 6.2-liter naturally aspirated engine •Six-speed automatic transmission •Electronically selectable 4x4; 4.56 gear sets; front and rear e-lockers" Very impressive ford! I cant congradulate them enough, im very proud of ford.

Re: Ford 6.2L Official numbers are out
Performance engines are tuned for high RPM power, not low RPM. That's why the 6.2 in the GM pickups has peak torque lower than the LS3. I also believe the 6.2 truck engine uses variable valve timing and the LS3 does not, but I could be wrong.
That's why the 6.0 liter Vortec Max always made far less power than the 6.0 liter LS2 Corvette engine too. I really don't think GM's gasoline truck engines will match this output until the next generation small block V8 comes out in a few years. He's probably referring to the 2009 F-150 5.4 liter V8. In some press releases it was listed at 320 horsepower and 390 pound feet of torque, but that's only on E85. Using regular fuel, I believe it's rated 310/365. But nowhere in this press release does it say that the new 6.2 uses E85. |
