Posted yesterday was a video about the Shelby GT500 speeding around the Nürburgring. According to the article, Ford never released any official info about the GT500 being timed, but another forum did. Watch the video & prepare for a grain of salt. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/10/30/shelby-gt500-nurburgring-video/
And that grain of salt? Watch where the clock starts to begin the lap & then watch where it stops the timer. It starts just past the end of the pit exit wall, but it stops at the white line just past the last turn. I counted 6 seconds between that line & the car passing the pit exit wall. The boys on the other forum appear to be fudging the numbers to make the GT500 look faster than it really is.
The Z28 is a much better track car, that is after all why it was created.
IMO GT500 and ZL1 would probably be about as fast as each other around the 'Ring but the Z28 obviously
has much better balance which shows as carrying more entry and exit speed in corners.
And you can take to the bank that GT500 was short tof the mark which is why Ford never said a word.
I would love to see the Mustang do better at the 'Ring but to do that, it would need something like a 500 Hp NA 5.0 or 5.2 V8 and top notch handling/tire package - do that and things will be different.
There are a few lap times from the stock-ish GT500 on that circuit, along with prototype Mustang disguised as GT500's testing various engine and suspension setups.
Does anyone here think Ford would sell any more GT500's if it beat the ZL1 by 10 seconds on the 'Ring?
Exactly. But, that's a different track. The slower one might run faster on the Ring. We're splitting hairs here. Both cars are awesome but mine still picks up more chicks - if only it had a back seat.
See, the good publicity for the Camaro is intended to get Camaro buyers off their butts and buying new cars.
Similarly, Mustang buyers know that there's a new model coming next year yet still support the car now.
Anyone who loves muscle cars will like and respect the Z28, we can only hope that Ford and Chrysler
will step up with their own answers and give us a trio of desirable muscle cars...
I'm surprised the Mustang's brake didn't melt after half a lap.
