ROFL Bravada - just when you start making sense you just fall back to your old self ....
anways ... Kuga is getting a heavy facelift in 2011 (CY) for 2012 (MY) - at that point, it will move from its current Gen1 C1 platform to the new gen2 C1 which by then will be in production under C-Max, and Focus.
The differences in the 2 generations of C1 will be similar to the upgrades the D3 received - more refinement, tuning, and for US - lower build costs - at least optional lower builild costs. The costs savings do not come from refinement .. but from globalized modular wiring .. so the stripper with nothing but AM-FM-1Cd does not have to have the electrical infrastructure for Bluetooth, and navigation - no need.
Really, we get most of the USDM SUVs sooner or later due to popularity of private imports and I have actually SEEN a facelifted Escape. I am not sure what's so different about American roads, but it looked rather old. Whether the rest look ugly or not does not matter much, the vehicle looks old and is old.
PS. Now that I think of it, I think it MIGHT have been a CD vehicle...
I was speaking of the new USDM Escape. The Escape got cancelled in Europe pre-facelift and replaced with Kuga. The old Escape was called Maverick (yes, Sarah Palin, a MAEEEEEVrick) in Europe anyway. And the Escape was a 2001 to start with, the 1980s-style grille doesn't help hide it!
For sure, but Ford's known that long before they've launched it.
I mean, we could find a myriad of justifications and excuses why it is this way, I simply believe Ford dropped the ball here and their product planning is still very haphazard and as much 50% hit as 50% miss, especially in NA market, where it should be 100% hit at present conditions.
As concerns the 80s grille:
That's what I think of when I see a modernized Escape, except for the fact that the rest of the Escape doesn't really fit with the grille (Mariner arguably got away with less damage).
As concerns Palin, I just can't help, she's lovely. I hope she runs again in 2012.
Funny, when I saw the Escape restyle, I was really impressed by that "classic" grille... nice touch... I like it when automakers draw styling cues from their past vehicles.
Plus, I was glad to see a brand new vehicle sport a grille so similar to my old Ford's:
(I think that's even closer to the Escape's than the 89-92 Ranger you chose)
Yea Bravada, do you hate the 60's grill that Pontiac has, or the Chevy grill that has been used since i cant remember. How about Dodge and Jeep. How about Lincoln using a style grill from the 40's. Do yo hate all those as well??
I think the Escape would look better if the grille didn't have that shiny-chrome look. Maybe more of a dull metal. Then make the bumper part of the grill body-colored. Yeah, that'd look nice.
But I do have to admit that shiny chrome grille is nicer than the complete body-colored grille found on some Escape Hybrids.
I knew the fusion sport would look awesome in person! (well in auto show pics i mean) I wont see the actual car till march at my autoshow or at a dealer by then...
Scion may have given out the most swag at the LAIAS with their beanies, keychains, and swag storage bags, but this was by far my favorite piece of swag given out:
If I must jump the GM ship, the Fusion 3.5 AWD with EcoBoost (whenever it comes) would be my daily driver and psuedo people hauler. It's a very good looking car in person, and the inside isn't bad (but it isn't amazing either).
My boyfriend actually has this car and I'm not going to lie it's pretty sick ....
