Both versions are stunning in their own manner, and I would take either hands down over the nasty looking new US Focus. I like the trippy tail lights on the white one at FoMoCo!

Looks really good. A heck of a lot better than what I saw at the Auto Show.

Unfortunately, that's not the US Focus - it's the Euro Focus.

Regarding the FoMoCo news link...igor in that thread said that it's nowhere close.

Because I'm sure the normal Focus would have 20" rims with low profile tires like that, as well as the gaping lower grill.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but until I saw sales figures, I honestly thought Honda was trying to commit suicide with the new Civic. That is EASILY the ugliest car on the road, even worse than the Scion xB. While I don't care for small-car proportions from an aesthetic standpoint, the 2008 US Focus is beautiful in comparison. The CRV is another example of American eating up otherwise HIDEOUS vehicles.

NEVER EVER underestimate the bad taste of Americans. With Sync, the 2008 Focus will fly off lots as fast as Ford can crank them out.

That being said, expect something like this to be in showrooms in about 3 years, when the C2 Focus starts assembly here.

To answer the question you asked over at the other forum, these license plates are the standard format European Union plates... that's why they're pretty common. The letter(s) in the leftmost blue area indicates the country.

(The Focus in the pics has a German plate.)

Because you would not want to pay $22,500+ for a base Focus?

I am anxious to see how well (or how badly) the Astra will do here. After years of hearing everyone clamoring for it, my "I told you so" will definitely be sweet...

...unless of course GM decides it can afford to lose money on every Astra. After all, everyone knows GM is almost drowning in profits at the moment, so why not?

Re: 2008 Ford Focus Facelift

Bad taste? Are you honestly going to tell me that THIS:

is better looking than THIS:

I'm not defending the Civic because I own it, but the 2008 Focus looks like a miscarriage. It seems even Ford lovers hate it.

Also, comparing a very obviously higher end Focus model to a lower level LX model sedan Civic is a bit unfair (because even God hates the Civic Sedan, and I don't blame him).

Compact wise, the only thing that will sell the new Focus is its interior option list. I admit, it has some nice offerings, and the Civic is quite lacking, even for the class. Unfortunately, one look at the Focus' interior sends blind children away crying.

But then again, that is just my opinion. I like how compact cars typically look, but to me, the new Focus looks like a Kia, as another user pointed out. The wheels are tiny as hell, and the front looks like a concept debuted in 1990. I'll still go take a look at it when they start selling them, because I like cars period, but I'm not sure I could ever buy one seriously. The back and sides arent bad, but the interior, wheels, and front end need changing before I would ever even remotely consider it.

Also, the new CR-V looks a lot like the new VUE. Or rather, the new VUE looks a lot like the new CR-V, at least from the front end. The back of the new VUE reminds me of a Hyundai or a Kia, I can't remember which brand and model. There are far uglier cars on the road than the new Civics, although they should have made the JDM front clip standard on the Civics, it looks a lot better:

But if I lived over in Europe, I would buy a Focus in a heartbeat over their Civic. Now that is an ugly car:

Woof to that ^.
