Re: Current Contest #175: Results

I wish we had more participants. We used to get 10-12 entries each week with unique submitters. Again I did 1/2 of them this week.

Maybe you can go look at who used to enter and send off some PM's enquiring why they no longer enter. And if they have any suggestions they think would make the comp more interesting to them.

If I can make an observation, there is no opportunity for people to discuss the pics. Given that most of the voting is done in the first 4 days, perhaps voting could be stopped then by you posting "No more votes beyond here, only comments & discussion" or something. That would open it up to both the entrants and voters to discuss the pics. What they did, why they did them. If it worked the way they wanted or not etc. I may be wrong but perhaps social interaction could make up for whatever is not here now that clearly used to drive entries.

Another possibility is that some entrants never placed and just decided they could never win. If that is the case then maybe, like in horse racing, have a handicapping system say once a month where points are removed at the rate of 3, 2 and 1 for each win, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the last 10 comps. Or it may have to be 6, 4 and 2 or 12, 8 and 4 points to handicap effectively.

Just some thoughts....

The results thread was always the place to discuss the entrants after the contest was over.

That may be; but virtually nobody ever did because they already have moved their attention on to the new comp.

Anyway it was just a suggestion.

For example:

1) Asteroid is spelled wrong in your entry. That would take away voting points for me.
2) Celica killer? Celica died back in 2005.

I don't think I ever have to worry about your vote, I've never done a chop you like.

There is a new Celica being designed as we speak.

I agree, participation has been down from about a year or two ago. I remember when there were weeks with almost 20 chops. That was nuts.
