I just ordered a nav system and antennae for my 06 tahoe off of ebay. Will let you know if it is a snap or not. Cost me $1,100 for the nav radio, antannae and Nav DVD 4.1. Not bad considering I can sell my 6 disc radio for $250 right now on ebay. That makes this swap cost me only $850. |

Re: Wanting to put stock GM navigation into 2004 GMC Denali
I believe you have to have the correct factory amp for the Nav unit to work. There are (I think) three different amps: base, Bose, and the Lux amp. The Nav requires the Lux amp. With a Denali, you are probably fine, since it uses the Lux amp setup, as does Cadillac, but with a base or Bose you may have trouble. Plus, most of the units for sale on eBay are Theftlock, and need to be cleared at a dealership to work. You may be able to work around the Theftlock codes on older units, but the newer 6-disc and Nav radios actually learn a piece of the VIN of the car in which they are installed. If you reinstall it in your car, and the VIN doesn't match, the unit will not work unless it is cleared by the dealer computer. If it's a brand-new unit, you may not have that problem, but the amps do, to the best of my knowledge, still have to match up correctly. A quick Google search can give you more info on the install. Hope this helps, and I'm not off base - maybe one of the dealership guys on here can give you a better breakdown of the process. Good luck!

I called the dealer about unlocking the unit and they said it would be $100 so I negotiated with the seller to have them unlock it for me. Should save some time and money. I will keep all posted. |

Re: Wanting to put stock GM navigation into 2004 GMC Denali
Here's the link I was talking about earlier:
http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/lofi...hp?t28030.html They did a 6-disc slave install at the same time (a pretty nice setup) and the Nav looks like an older unit from a Trailblazer - the newer one is more flat. Either way, it might be worth a look, since a lot of the eBay units for sale seem to be this one. Good luck with the install - definitely post how it turns out! |

If I do not have tha 6 CD in my '02 Tahoe - would that pretty much mean I dont have the correct AMP or whatever and cant retro fit?

The way I understand it, no, you wouldn't be able to, without at least the Bose/6-CD setup - and even then, it would be iffy. I think the '02 was the last year to use the older radio model as well, before the '03 interior freshening. As far as I know, the Nav unit won't work with the older line of radio and amps at all. Maybe Road King has other info on it that might help. |

Re: Wanting to put stock GM navigation into 2004 GMC Denali
From what I understand, you need to have a 2003 or newer for the nav unit to work. Gm redisgned the dash in 2003, thus the prior models don't have the same specs for the radio area. GM does make 2 Nav units, one for the Lux amp, which is the Denali and Escalade, and one for the Non-Lux amp, which is for the Tahoe, Silverado, Avalanche, Hummer, etc... Must have the bose speakers as an option for it to work. Each unit does have a different part #, and as far as I know, that is the only way you can tell them apart. There are a few older Nav units that are non-touchscreen, but from what I've seen, most of them are for the Lux amp.

Gotcha - yes I have the older style radio (one of the few things that irked me when we bought it since almost every other GM car had the new one
) - Oh well, time to look at Garmin ![]()

Re: Wanting to put stock GM navigation into 2004 GMC Denali
Well got the nav system today. Simply popped off the dash trim, unscrewed 3 screws and unplugged the factory radio. Plugged the nav system into the same plugs that were in the original radio, plugged in the nav antennae and done. Fully working nav system. Piece of cake.
This is really easy and the nav is great. I say if you want nav and a nice touch screen radio in your truck go for it. For those of you that are interested. I have a Z71 Tahoe 2006. The nav radio I got was model 15800000. I have the bose system non-luxury. If you have the luxury Y91 or Y92 option get the model 15800001 radio. Non bose trucks will use the part number 15811289. |
