    Unlocking Hypertech Power Programmer

There is a cheap programmer on ebay I'd like to get for my truck but it's locked.
Does anyone know how to unlock these? (preferably without sending it back to Hypertech)

Yup, they're synched to a VIN.

If you want my humble opinion, they are crap anyway. All the tune does is advance the timing and lean out the mixture, often to the point of knock. Dyno before/after. Bet you don't see more than 5hp.

I always wondered about this myself. Had on on an '88 Silverado, couldn't
feel any difference. Required mid-grade. I actually pulled it and sold it to
someone who swore it really woke up his truck....hahaha.

How dare they try to hold on to their proprietary information that they spent thousands to discover.

Many of the upgrades tell you that you'll have to upgrade fuel, thermostat, and exhaust to get the benefit of the program.

Hypertech is more of a placebo than an actual tuner, please don't waste your time.

    Re: Unlocking Hypertech Power Programmer

Its prob. locked because the tune is already unloaded into another vehicle.

I had one and the unit itself is useless when the tune gone and loaded into a vehicle.
So use caution because someone is trying to sell you a unit with no tune program
    in it.

BTW: I sold mine to a bud for $100 because it wouldn't work in my 07.

    Re: Unlocking Hypertech Power Programmer

There's nothing proprietary about advancing the spark timing from factory settings to 28* as it does on an LS1 vehicle. One can pay about $100 more than a hypertech for a quality dyno tune from a reputable tuner, and end up with far better results.

That said I can't blame them for vin-locking, otherwise one guy would buy it and pass it around like a peace pipe to all his buddies.
