Hi guys Me and my dad were doing a brake job on my car and we happened to notice that the brake pad on the left front disc has more wear than the one on the right disc. Anyway we are both stumped and perplexed as to what could be causing this. The disc in question is not warped or damaged in anyway and the caliper seems to be in good shape also. anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

Re: uneven brake wear on 2001 chevy malibu
I would suggest replacing the calipers. Over time, they do wear out.

If the caliper slide pins are not lubricated properly, the pads will not apply and retract evenly - thus the uneven wear. |

Re: uneven brake wear on 2001 chevy malibu
True rotor warping is a notorious problem on N bod cars but we looked at both the front discs and the rear rotors and saw no evidence of warping. the only major item we saw was the uneven wear on the left disc so it could very well be the slide pins we put more grease on those so we'll see if it helps.

Re: uneven brake wear on 2001 chevy malibu
you either have a problem with a caliper, or a hose on the side that has premature wear, or you have stuck slides, or something is just plain stuck. when you replace the pads, make sure you replace all the pad springs and lube your slides. check to see if your piston in your caliper depresses, if it doesnt then it is a caliper problem, or you can also crack your bleeder open and see if fluid squirts out without pressing the pedal. this is a indication of a restricted hose.
