    Suburban rear door/hatch not opening

Im asking this for a friend. What I do know so far is that she can use the remote to unlock the doors, and she hears the "click" for the rear hatch, but it will not open, like it stays locked. Im trying to find out if the glass opens up. Has anybody encountered this. Its an 06 by the way.

I had a problem where the rear glass woudn't close....turned out the latch mechanism was in the closed position.....this sounds a little more serious.

Most likely the rear actuator that controls the lock assembly. Have replaced a few of those in the past. Approx $350 parts and labor....

Yes, I just did this on my Tahoe.

It is the early signs of the actuator failing. Mine did the same thing. You had to unlock it like 3 or 4 times to actually get it to unlock. Then it wouldn't unlock at all, it would just click. Then one day it decided it wouldn't even click anymore.

Shouldn't be too hard to replace the actuator if you are handy with tools. I bought a new actuator for mine from LMC for $80 and it took me about an hour to change it out. The worst part was drilling out the two rivets that held it in. Replace those with a couple of 1/4" bolts and it was good to go.

Yep ^^^^. $80 is a good price, although it is aftermarket. I actually got here this morning and the first car in was an 04 Tahoe. Guy says "My back door doesnt lock with the other doors" I thought, dang, what are the odds.

    GM PART #15808595 $329.06

1/2 hour labor at dealers labor rate.

    Thanks for the info,

Wow, 329.06 for the GM actuator?

I realize the one I bought is not GM ( although honestly, you couldn't tell the old from the new, except one was covered in dust ). Assuming mine is similar, if not the same as an 05, I can replace it 4 times and still be cheaper. Maybe there is a difference between the barn door actuator price and the tailgate actuator price? Mine has the barn doors.
