    olds aurora vs buick riviera?

    Hi,

looking for a "new" used car and I was considering a late s/c riv or p/a ultra, but also an aurora.
does the 4.0 has the same problems with blown head gaskets as the northstars in the caddy's?
is it much more troublesome and $$$ to repair than a park avenue?

    What about a chrysler concorde/lhs/300m?

    Thx for any reply!

PS: I allready dismissed the deville (altough I love it) because of the dreaded head gasket issue and too much electronics.

Stay away from the Chrysler, despite what others state...My aunt had a LHS that she loved...it also had a 2nd home at her local Chrysler dealer...
She replaced it with a trouble free Lucerne...

All of the FWD full size Chryslers we get in on trade immediately go into the auction row...

Anyways...I'd pick the SC 3800 Riviera 1st...yes the Aurora 4.0 has the same issues as the 4.6...

I would also stay away from any Chrsyler.Chrysler can build a pretty decent truck ,but their cars are junk IMO.I would also choose a used Riviera over an Aurora any day.IMO a supercharged Riviera is a really nice vehicle. Not many problems at all.I have been with Buick for 14 years.Buick builds a very solid vehicle.Buick is allways in the top 5 in JD Powers for vehicles with the least amount of problems.

LOVE the 95 and newer Riv's. Not the interior.
LOVE the 95 and newer (1st gen) Aurora, ESPECIALLY the interior.

You may have better luck (read: trouble free) w/ the s/c 3.8 versus the 4.0.

    Either way, thumbs up yo'!

I wouldn't buy any of them unless I were able to get some kind of bumper-to-bumper extended warranty from a warranty company. All of them are riddled with electronics that have lots of small-guage wires connecting them together.

That or if it's a low-mile car with a good history from a caring owner.

Re: olds aurora vs buick riviera?

    thx for the input guys!

as for the electronics, well, this car will replace a '91 p/a ultra with 200k miles, so it can't be worse-hehe-
funny thing is that engine/tranny are still running fine, but it rusted out badly...

    2002 Chrysler Concorde LXi owner.

39,000 miles on it. I've had it for 10 months and put over 4,000 miles on it without a single problem. Smooth ride, great fuel economy, great looks, better interior than any of those other cars.

Don't listen to any of these jealous GM fans.

Your car is like new and barely used. I apreciate your reply, but I need more data to put it back on the list.
I bought the '91 4 years ago at 125k and put 70k plus on it in without ANY major repair, only consumables, that means using it an average of four times more than yours...

I'm not familiar with any head gasket problems associated with the Northstar engine family.

I prefer the Aurora exterior compared with the Rivi. I don't hate the Rivi's styling though.

Have you considered a Bonneville SSEi? Same platform (I'm pretty sure) and same class.

Re: olds aurora vs buick riviera?

My self I would probably go with the Riviera cause I perfer a coupe. But the Aurora is one heck of a car too. Either one would be a good choice. A Bonneville SSEi would be a car to look at too, one of my ex's had a Bonneville SSE and that was an awesome car to drive.
