G6 Radio Sounds Weird
Alright, with this cold snap we have had (0-18 degrees) my G6 stereo sounds strange at times. After it has set in the cold outside or even in the garage overnight the main speaker in the passengers door sounds like it's blown.
Then once the cabin warms up the speaker gets back its sanity and the stereo system sounds as awesome as always. The car is out of warranty, but the service writer said he could probably get it covered. He thought it could be the whole radio?

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
Extreme heat and extreme cold are the bain of electronic devices. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you can get it covered, it's worth a shot, I guess. Unless you're gonna just trade the car in on some stupid Ford.

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
It definitely sounds like the extreme cold is playing havoc on your stereo. I don't think it's so bad you have to do something as drastic as buy a Ford, but to each his own.

That isn't the reason. So is it true that the likely problem is the radio, not the speaker? I almost ordered a new speaker for it to put in myself...glad I didn't.

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
It gets parked in a heated garage every night. Our garage is about 80 degrees in the winter until we go to bed...in which the heater turns off by itself and stays off until the next evening.

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
Alright, so I dropped it off at the dealership Thursday afternoon to leave it overnight. That way they could hear it when it was cold this morning.
They heard it! The service writer called me at 8:30 and said it sounded horrible and they are fairly sure it is the speaker itself. So they ordered the speaker and amplifier just in case both are bad, which is a possibility. The best part: the car is not under warranty. However the service writer said that he is going to see if GM will "good will" warranty it and if they don't the dealership will pick up the tab!! Yay! The parts are going to be in Monday, so I opted to leave the car there until then...so he even put it in the shop this afternoon so it didn't have to sit outside all weekend in the weather. I love my dealership. ![]()

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
My entire engine and transmission is being dropped out of my car this weekend as they think the clutch disk and pressure plate might be screwed over.
Yay ![]()

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
So buy another car from them instead of some Ford!

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
They are just trying to get you in a G8. Don't fall for it.
Glad they are fixing it for you. The question is why did it blow?

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
Haha. Actually, the service department at my GM dealership is a big factor in keeping me in a GM vehicle.
Quote:
I'm not sure what happened to the speaker. I've never had the radio sustained at max volume or anything. Frankly, I don't like it blaring that loud. About halfway is the max for me. When the car is warm the speaker sounds fine. I really don't get it. Haha.

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
Pay no attention to the darndot behind the curtain! Buy the G8!
My money says it's from playing this song over and over again at max volume. ![]()

Re: G6 Radio Sounds Weird
I want him in a G8 as bad as you Uzzy. (OK really I want a G8)
I am just wondering if water ran down the window and got into the speaker somehow.
