    Distributor Cap

Anyone had problems with their caps cracking on their 5.7 Chevy trucks? Had to have mine replaced on my 02 with only 45k miles! You know when it gets bad. The engine will not start.

    Re: Distributor Cap

I think it happens on all vehicles with distributors, but I don't know how common it is. I never had a problem with the cap on my ZR2, but I didn't put a lot of miles on it.

Is it carbon tracking or what? Try cleaning it out with a pencil eraser.

I heard it might be a common problem. A NAPA Dealer told me they get hot since they do not have vent holes.

A cap on a 2002? Electronic ignition was becoming the norm in the 80s. I thought distributor caps died in the 90s.

No such animal in 02, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 all coil on plug ignition. However if it is a 4.3 V6 it does still have a cap/rotor set-up and there is a recall for ac condensation dripping on the cap and cracking it causing a no start condition due to corrosion from moisture inside cap.

The 5.7 liter was phased out when the new (post 99) edition Silverado came out (I believe).

    Talking Re: Distributor Cap

This 5.7 Engine is in an 2002 Chevy Express Cobra Conversion van. And the GM invoice did say they replaced the Distributor Cap! I don't think its the same type of Cap we are use to from the 60'S.

DOH, I just assumed it was a truck, sorry, as the vans had the 5.7 until the 2003 model year change to the new gen engines...............lol.
