Crackling Speakers 2004 Suburban 2500 with Bose

When ever I start the Suburban up and it is cold outside 25 or below, the speakers will make a crackling and popping sound for about 30 seconds and than stop. It doesn't seem to hurt anything but it doesn't seem normal. What could cause this, the radio doesn't have to be on for the crackling and popping to happen. Each speaker will pop and crackle individually, its not all the speakers at once. It seems to start in the front drivers side door, than it will start in the front passenger side, and than go to the rear passenger side, rear drivers side, and than the back speakers on the back pillar will start to crackle, and they will all do it for about 10 seconds, than it fizzle out. Its really wierd. I thought I was getting shot at the first time it happened it was pretty loud. Anyway is anyone else having this issue.

I haven't heard of this on a Suburban, but older Bose systems in the older Cadillacs had issue sort of like that before failure, and then it didn't matter the temperature. I would assume to be an issue with the amplifier. I checked for TSB's, and I didn't see any referring to what you have. See if it continues when it gets warmer.

See if it happens along with the interior light dimming.

No, it only seems to happen when its below 20 or so degrees. The lights and everything don't flicker its just the speakers crackling, they don't seem tied to this problem at all. The last two times its happened the outside temperature was about 10 degrees. Its never done it in warmer weather.

You're the first one I've heard it from. Hmmm.

Re: Crackling Speakers 2004 Suburban 2500 with Bose

Well I found out what the crackling was. It apparently is a connector on the wiring harness in back of the radio. The ground is bad they said, so they have ordered the part. This has got to be one of the most troublesome GM vehicles I've owned.

That's strange since the Suburban is usually one of the most reliable GM vehicles - and even makes it into Consumer Reports picks.
