Question Changing Factory Radio on Equinox or Other NEW

I searched the forums but couldnt find the answer.

I just purchased an Equinox and I want to replace the factory radio and need to know how risky that is or what functions I may loose. (I will get this professionally done of course) Crutchfield.com makes it sound like I will loose some 'check engine' tone that can be sent to factory radio, but I dont know how important that is and is there another way to indicate. Is it not as common these days for people to swap out radios? I think the quality is still lacking and I want something with external input so I can hook up my iPOD easily.

    Thanks
    Steve

Do you have the optional stereo with the subwoofer?

Or do you have a bone stripped model?

If you have OnStar, it will have a significant negative impact on the ability to use OnStar.

And yes, the removal of the radio will set diagnostic codes in the car.

Bummer... Anyone know if the Factory units in the G6 cars have certain 'extra' features??? I have a headphone icon, phone, as well as a Cassete icon on the display..but no way that I know of to use any of it. Wondering if there would be aftermarket options/more factory options later.

Do they not make a relocation kit yet? If they do that's what I would do.

yeah, check if they make a relocation kit for the original radio.

I you choose to change it without relocationg you'll lose door chimes and you're gonna have issues with Onstar (if equipped)

As for relocating kits, some other models kit might be compatible as for the J-body a Tracker relocating kit is much cheaper...

The Casette icon is there likely as that display may be used in other applications. The phone is part of the OnStar/Personal Calling, and the headphones may be for a rear seat audio function?

Just having an icon may not indicate functionality, it may only mean that the icon was there already and had no cost to retain.
