Car starts and stops almost right away.

2002 Olds Alero with the 2.2 Ecotec Engine and a 5-speed. 118,000 km.

Came to a gas station from my 100 km commute. During the commute, the Security light came on and stayed on for the rest of the trip. Once I filled up (and I fill up here every other day), I go to start the car, the car starts, and then stops immediately but before it stops, it sputters to a stop.

Video upload coming soon. It just sat there for 10 minutes, started up fine. Turned off, started again, had trouble keeping idle. IAT?? But then again, pressing on the gas didn't do anything either.

Is the gas cap tightly fastened, and not loose?

Likely a Pass-Lock issue which requires a new ignition lock cylinder...

    That is my guess...

I would say the same since you got the light. Otherwise it could be a fuel pump.

    I didn't see the anti-theft light on.

I'm going to take an uneducated guess and say it's the crank sensor.

Best to get a pro diagnosis though.

Update: Car didn't start this morning. Just cranks and nothing happens. Can't hear the fuel pump either. So the dealer is getting a call from me to pickup the car and replace most likely the fuel pump.

Pass-Lock failure can cause that too...

    anyways keep us posted...if I'm proved wrong...several GMI-ers will have a party!

wow, you have driven 100,000.00 miles in that car! Amazing, I thought import buyers insist that GM cars cannot do 100K miles

That sounds offley like a Pass lock failure, IMO also.

    And the winner is:

Passlock failure which also took the Fuel Pump Relay out of commission due to all the cranking.

To the tune of $652 CDN + tax, it hurts but they have all the parts in stock.

By the way, it isn't 100,000 miles. It is 118,000 km on it. 73,000 miles to be exact. I do intend to keep it past 100,000 miles unless it gets written off.
