4.3 S10 Turbo

Has anyone ever done that before? I mean a pretty simple turbo kit, pushing around 250-300hp, enough to move pretty quick, but not to much to tear the truck to shreads.

I've come into some money and was thinking about doing this.

I know some of you will say just put in a 350, but I've heard some horror stories about that at the dealership where I work, real pain in the groin as I've been told.

Would it be just as easy to buy a turbo and do it myself? I'm fairly mechanically inclinded, all I don't know a whole lot about is what injectors to use and how to reprogram the computer.

I don't know if anyone makes a turbo kit for you. It shouldn't be that hard to find a supercharger though it wont be cheap. A turbo is more efficent, a supercharger is easier to install. A supercharger is better for low end power; it's better for a truck.

That's the thing that made me mad about my '94 Zr2 I had, not enough power and ****ty MPG's.

That being said I've been looking into a turbo for my four cylinder.

Try asking the guys at syty.net. Syclone and Typhoon motors are nothing to sneeze at. The best way to know how your engine is going to perform is to copy one that's already been built, and they'll probaly have the info you need.

I'd look into a remote turbo setup. It seems simple enough to engineer yourself

I wonder if a supercharger from a 3.8 would bolt up yo the 4.3. They're both 90deg engines correct?

That is true but the 3800 is a "Buick V6" not a "SBC"

I would look at a bolt on Vortech Supercharger rather then a turbo, at least as far as ease of install and reliability. I havent seen a turbo "kit" for the 4.3, everything I have seen has been modded from something else to work, and there is a lot of tinkering to do to get it all right. A Vortech would bolt on and be designed for that engine.

But yea, there are forums all over the place with people that could better answer your question, as I am sure you know. Good luck!

Gotta love those old Syclones, they were bad ass for their time. Have you checked with STS to see if they have an application?

If you are looking for a nice 4.3L Turbo setup cruise over to S10forum.com They have a few turbo builds going on over there. Personally id recommend a remote turbo. Fueling is the main issue with the 4.3L. There are no aftermarket injectors you can upgrade to.

Picked one off ebay for $200- you can upgrade the injectors. Fits all new vortech motors. Just have to make a few changes. They put these intakes on the Mercrusier boats.

The Spider injectors sucks, very expensive

Yes, it's been done... Here's the high points:

Relocate battery
Walbro fuel pump
Marine intake manifold
SyTy exhaust manifolds
SyTy turbocharger
Custom downpipe
HPTuners PCM tune

Fueling is the main issue with the 4.3L. There are no aftermarket injectors you can upgrade to.

The marine intake swap isn't too bad.
I run some overkill MotoTrons on mine.

Can't say I have, the one I always screwed with was a TBI... what is special about it?
