2007 Impala - Service Air Bag

So my car is telling me to service the air bag. Doesn't say which one. I'm gona make an appointment next week to get this checked out and since my warranty is up it'll probably cost me a small fortune.

I was just wondering if anyone here knew what this is? Is it just a sensor or is there something actually wrong with the air bag? Thoughts?

One more thing to note; My car is almost 4 years old and this is the second time I've had to take her to the shop to get something fixed. The first time was something in the steering. Not too bad I guess.

Most common problem I've seen is pinched/kinked wiring under driver's seat on Impalas.

If you've got driver's power seat, raise the seat up all the way and CAREFULLY inspect the wiring (I believe air bag wiring is bright yellow. Also check to see if the floor is wet on either side-the air bag modules are under the front seats.

This is just one of many things that can cause the warning. Be very careful with air bag wiring.

I own a 2008 Impala LTZ - purchased new / never wrecked or damaged.

At 999 miles, I received the same warning. The dealer determined there were defective air bag wiring connectors that needed repair - per Chevrolet Technical Assistance.

At 22,000 miles, I received the same warning. The dealer determined the front passenger seat belt assembly (pretensioner included) was malfunctioning and it was replaced.

I had a variety of other defects repaired under the new car warranty - but I was really upset that a critical safety system malfunction twice - with two separate defects.

Take your car to the dealer and have it diagnosed and fixed - don't wait. There could be multiple problems and you don't want to risk your safety.

    Good luck.

Does your car have over 50,000 miles?

Because I was thinking the 07's had 5yrs/50,000 for the warranty.

I think the drivetrain warranty is 5 years and the bumper to bumper is 3 years.
