Angry 2005 cavalier temp gauge

Can someone tell me why the temp gauge on my 05 cavalier does not read accurately. I have replaced the sending unit and checked all connections and it still does not work. Each time you turn the key off and then turn it back on the gauge jumps. sometimes past 260 into the speedometer range. With a scan tool connected the computer is reading the temp correctly but gauge still does not.

Re: 2005 cavalier temp gauge

I have a similar issue with the fuel guage in my 03 cavalier. I'm wondering if it is caused by a loose connection in the instrument cluster.

Re: 2005 cavalier temp gauge

In my mom's Suburban the speedo did the same thing your temp gauge is doing and the whole instrument cluster had to be replace under warranty. The fuel gauge also died on that cluster.

Re: 2005 cavalier temp gauge

I'd have it professional checked with a scan tool to gage accuracy....and professional, I mean that, not those twits from AutoZone!

Re: 2005 cavalier temp gauge

I checked the sensor with our modis and it is reading correctly. The gauge still jumps though. Are there any recalls or tsbs by GM. Surely this is not the only that has had this problem.

Not on a Cavalier....very little as far as cluster issues...

I would suggest a cluster exchange...

What kind of mileage do you have on the car...under 45K miles possibly???

If so, I'd ask the GM dealer for assistance!

Re: 2005 cavalier temp gauge

ive had a few that needed clusters. not as much a problem in the cavaliers, but as with any vehicle you still get the occasional problem.

you will have to pull the cluster to get the part number from it, not accesable from the tech 2.
