2004 chevy classic wont start

2004 chevy classic wont start. The car starts for a few seconds than act like no fuel and dies. When you leave the key in with door open it shoud ding but it doesn't. Dash gages dont seem to work. Dome light doesn't work. All fuses are good.
Is the a problem with ignition swith failing on 2004s?
What other problems would cause this?
Please help

I was going to suggest lock cylinder but If it were the lock cylinder then the engine wouldn't start period so It's probably a fuel pump issue like 454 mentioned

i agree on the fuel pump, if it was security related it wouldnt start at all. like mentioned.

take a pressure gauge to it, or even better grab a BFH and smack the fuel tank while you crank the car, if it starts and runs, it needs a fuel pump.

Ignition switch isnt all that uncommon to fail on n body malibus although if the engine starts then stalls I would say its a passlock issue, try cranking the engine till it fires then let it stall and see if security lite is on or flashing if so wait ten minutes till it goes out then if its starts its a passlock problem as far as the other things no common problems im aware of.make sure you leave key in run position.

I concur...likely the ignition switch, as other things will fail to operate...
