Exclamation Re: 2003 Tahoe speedometer problem

I would not recommend DASHUSA DashUSA Auto Electronics & Speedometer http://dashusa.com/ to anyone. They have had my instrument cluster for over a month and three weeks ago they were paid and was told by Steve's rep that the cluster would be shipped that day. Its now three weeks later and I have called them various times and left messages. The last two times (about two weeks ago) was the last time I talked to STEVE himself and he told me both times that he would call me back, and to this day has not. I am unable to use my car for over a month now. I left them a message to either send the repaired item back or refund the money and send back the cluster and I can take it elsewhere for repairs, but no luck. They have caller ID, so they are avoiding my calls. This is a sad way of doing business. I found out that I was not the only one complaining about DASHUSA, they have had complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau so I decided to file one myself. BUYER BEWARE OF DASHUSA. I just found out through this site that they have a toll free number. I would hate for you to send in your instrument cluster and go through this.

I'm surprised the dealer wouldn't touch it with 37k. Because the speedo failed and was reading high, it's likely the odo was turning faster too and the car is actually still under warranty. I would have raised a major stink.

Actually they are controlled separately. This problem would not cause any odometer issues. But they still should fix it for him/her, we goodwill clusters quite often.

Check with your dealer..some of these were being recalled...your dealer will be able to tell you so provide them with your VIN#...

My dad has had this problem on again-off again with his silverado (2003) pretty much since he bought the truck (2005). The local dealer says $5-600 to fix and it's not under recall. GMCSonoma, you say some are being recalled now. Do you have a vin list or something that my dad could check out or is ther hope for a wider recall soon?

    Re: 2003 Tahoe speedometer problem

A special policy came out for 03-04 trucks and suvs with less then 70,000 miles, and less then 7 years old. It technically isnt a recall, as only the ones that actually have the problem will be fixed. Dont worry though, if you were going to have the problem you most likely would have already. If your vehicle is involved you willbe notified, but they wont make any repairs unless yours actually has the problem. See below:

Subject: Special Coverage Adjustment - Instrument Panel Cluster Gauge Needle Function #07187 - (09/28/2007)

Models: 2003-2004 CADILLAC ESCALADE, ESCALADE ESV, ESCALADE EXT

2003-2004 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, SILVERADO, SUBURBAN, TAHOE

2003-2004 GMC SIERRA, YUKON, YUKON XL

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DUE TO PART AVAILABILITY, THIS SPECIAL COVERAGE IS BEING ADMINISTERED IN PHASES. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED AS EACH ADDITIONAL PHASE IS RELEASED.

CUSTOMERS ARE BEING INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT IF THEY BELIEVE THEIR VEHICLE HAS THIS CONDITION. THE CUSTOMER IS BEING ASKED TO PROVIDE THE VIN SO THE IPC CAN BE ORDERED IN ADVANCE OF THE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. THIS WILL ELIMINATE THE NEED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT. DEALERS ARE TO OBTAIN THE VEHICLE MILEAGE WHEN SCHEDULING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE WILL BE REQUIRED WHEN PLACING AN ORDER FOR THE IPC.

    Condition
Some customers of 2003-2004 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles have reported that one or more of the instrument panel (IP) cluster gauges stick, flutter, or become inoperative. This may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and fuel gauge.

    Special Coverage Adjustment
This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 70,000 miles (110,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

Dealers are to replace the instrument panel cluster after the condition has been verified. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. Returned IP clusters will be inspected upon return and replacement of IP clusters that do not exhibit the condition will not be covered.

For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after September 28, 2007 are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to September 28, 2007, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

    Vehicles Involved
Involved are all 2003-2004 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles built within the following VIN breakpoints:

    Thanks guys!!!

I talked to my dad today and gave him the list. His truck does match the recall so he'll be in to see the dealer this week. Once again, thanks lots!

    Re: 2003 Tahoe speedometer problem

I had the same problem in my 2004 avalanche. I found a website where I had my cluster rebuild for $140. That's a lot cheaper than the $750 that the dealer wanted to replace the speedometer.
Here is the address incase you wanna check it out:
