02 Monte Carlo SS electrical problems

Started with the cruise control light staying on. Then overhead console dead, now climate control intermitant. Where do I start? money is tight but winter is coming and I have to have heat here in Ohio. Ive heard the BCM may be the culpret by reading on the net but could the cruise module be a possibility since it started there?

I would measure the voltage at your fuses, if you find some low, under 11 with the key on you might have a bad ignition switch.

Thanks, I will dig out my trusted Simpson and have at them tonight. I also read about the ignition switch being a possibility but that just didnt add up in my mind with cruise seeming to be the start of it.

For the most part the voltage at the fuses was identical to battery voltage. A couple read near zero like the fan and cruise control. Where to next?

The same leg of the ignition switch feeds the following components: Cruise, HVAC, DIC, Rear view mirror. Sounds like your ignition switch is bad. There is an orange wire at terminal "C" of the ignition switch if it is low with the key on too that would be your problem. That wire feeds the A/C Cruise, A/C Fan, and the Cruise fuses.

Ok, thank you for your help. I dont know how to remove the ignition switch. I assume that is a dealer only item. Is there a way to get at the orange wire from the switch so I can probe it and confirm the low voltage?. I would take it in and have them change the ignition switch if I could be reasonably sure that was the problem and I didnt end up with a pile of troubleshooting and changing parts bills. I think I will also check voltage at each fuse today so I can be sure of whats hot and whats not. I am pulling the fuses one at a time to check voltage, is that ok or is there another way to get at the lugs?

You were right. Wish I had just told them to change the switch and I would have saved $170 in diagnostic fees. Oh well, total $385 but its fixed and thats the important thing. At least they knew what I was talking about and it didnt take long.
    Thanks again.
