Regal Turbo gets Tint and Outlook XR gets Tires

Got Llumar ceramic tint put on the Regal to Virginia legal standards (50% Front/35% Rear/ Down to AS1 line) plus I had the sunroof darkened to 20%.









Also this week after 3 years and 38,000 miles it was time for new tires for the Outlook. We went with Goodyear Assurance CS Tripletreds.









Do not see any other changes to the vehicles for a while.

We're still on our G6's factory Hankook Optimo tires after 73k miles with 4/32 tread remaining. Got about 60k out of the factory Michelin Cross Terrains on our TB and another 50k on the Michelin LTX AT2's we replaced those with (just went to BFG Rugged Terrains).

Yes. We rotate with every oil change.

Kewlness. Good move IMO re: the sunroof. Gives you extra protection from the evill solar rays, plus it adds a large measure of shatterproof that is a good thing to have up in the conning tower.

I wouldn't run tires past 5/32" but that's me. I will pay money for tires that others will continue to run because that's not a place I look to save money, relative to traction.

That's understandable, but beside the point. That the tires needed replaced at 38k miles seems odd.

Neanderthal I know you have not had pleasant experience with Goodyears. We wanted better wet traction than the OEM Fortera's and have gone with Tripletred on my previous LaCrosse and Freestyle. Glad they now offer a crossover variant that fits her Outlook XR.

The most I have ever gotten out of a tire was 50K from my Elantra GT and those were down to threads showing when I did that.

Having several 36, 39 and 45K miles leases, this is one expense I've appreciated avoiding.

What size is the Outlook tires (before and after)? Many of the lambda's tires look so big, but in your photo's not so much (I think it may just be the photo's).

Looks great! In PA & DE, tint on the front is not to state law so I could only do the rears on my Regal but as with my G8 before, on top of the black interior the front windows naturally look darker anyway. Tint is always a great choice, when done well.

Tires look nice on the Outlook. I've never had a bad tire experience, except for Eagle LS's on a 2000 Chrysler 300M we had over a decade ago. Noisy and vibration. The LS-2's on my G6 and Malibu after were definitely better, and I have no complaints about the RS-A all seasons on my GS now. They flat spot a little but I also let it sit for a week at a time and in the cold, then they're fine.

Cars look great! How many miles on the Regal so far?

Got about 440 miles so far. Still in the break in period of the engine til 500 miles. Will be lucky to have 4,000 miles on her by this summer when we move to destination unknown.

Not bad. I think the 2.0T gets better with age.

Mine was being driven by the dealer owner with 720 miles on it already, so smelled and looked new, but already broken in mostly. My mileage is at least getting a bit better since then as well.

Idea of where you may head next?

Most likely to Kentucky for a two year tour doing personnel management. If not could be Arizona, Maryland, or Alabama. Will not know for sure until Christmas time.

Ed753, they are the basic 255/65/18s size. So not too outrageous for a 5,000 CUV.

The Tripletreads are the only good tires in my opinion from Goodyear. Ive only had one customer at my shop come in needing tires for their Lambda (Acadia with same size as you). He wanted tires same day, I tried ordering the Tripletreads but couldn't get them same day, so he went with Fortera's.

The crappiest thing about the Fortera's is that they aren't as good as anything else from Goodyear, and yet they cost as least $50 more per tire than anything else, but are usually no where as good. Same issue with the RS-A, although I can at least say I like the Fortera's. Michelin does the same with the Pilot HX MXM4, it's another OEM tire that costs as much as $100 more than a comparable Primacy that is worlds better.

Also kinda sucky that no Michelins are offered in the size, I would take the Latitude Tour in a heartbeat. I have 43K and still have 6/32's. Not as awesome as the families having 60K miles on a set of Harmony's on the Dodge Grand Caravan with 8/32's.

It is good to know that the TripleTred is available in a CUV/SUV tire. I have TripleTred's on my HHR right now and really like the tire although I really wish the TripleTred All Season was available when I bought mine. The All Season looks like it should have a lot more bite in snow and winter driving conditions. It won't be for a few more years but I'll definitely look for TripleTred's for our Flex when it needs new tires.

I had Goodyear Viva 2 tires on my car, they were brand new. They came with the car when I bought it at 124,000, and I had them replaced this summer at 158,000 and 4 years. They had such bad dry rot that air leaked out of them.

When the Buick's time for tires comes I will probably switch to 225/55/18s and go for Goodyear ComfortTred Tourings. At the rate I am driving now this will occur in six years.
