It's nice to own a domestic car (especially ones that are actually "domestic" cars), when they are good. I did look at some foreign cars though. I can't believe the prices of used Hondas. I could light a 2000 Civic on fire, pee it out, and still get $6,000 for it. Insane.

It is a very well maintained car. I'm a little surprised that it doesn't have the DOHC Duratec engine, as the original owner really optioned it out. The OHV Vulcan is fine for me though. I really do prefer the '04+ interiors, though there aren't many differences (steering wheel, instrument panel, dashboard colors, headrests). It's another rattle-free interior too, just like the '01.

I hadn't heard about the heater core problem. I'll have to investigate that.

Heck yes it's sporty!
I could not believe how much used Civics were going for either. In some cases I was seeing 06 Civics costing more than discounted 08 models. Go figure.

This is why I think my 08 Cobalt LT was a steal for under $13K.

I also agree it is a good feeling to own a domestically built domestic car.

As for owning an OHV V6 as opposed to the DOHC, I think you are probably better off. It is a proven workhorse. Although it is not the same engine as the Duratec, the SOHC engine in our old Explorer froze up and needed to be replaced at 50k miles. It made me wish we bought an OHV V8 instead. The fuel economy would have been the same.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Not a GM,

King Riffle, How much did you get it for? My Dad is going to trade his in, and I was curious how the retail sales numbers go. He has the same year, same color, and his is comparably equipped. His has the wood wheel and leather though. He has 50k miles on it and they want to give him 4500 for it.

You okay there plane? You need a little timeout perhaps? Do we need to call your mom?
Hey, just trying to throw a little levity king Riffle's way and congratulate him on a great purchase.

What else did you want me to do with the pictures of your old girlfriends?

Sheesh.

One dealership wanted $19,900 for an '05 Civic.

Mine was about $9,000. Good luck though, as most dealerships have a bunch on the lot.

That's what I paid for a loaded '04 Silverado Z71 4x4.
