My "New" Old Ride

<------- It is time to let someone else enjoy my 1981 T/A, so off to auction it goes.
I picked this up on a reccent visit to Texas. It is a 1984 Olds Lightning Shift. 80K origional miles, fresh paint ( decals go back on monday ) and is a LOT of fun in the Southern California Sun!

Thanks! I had been looking around and this one kind of fell into my lap. Now the challenge is to get it ready for the Palm Springs show in November.

The gear shifter is funky.. havent seen that one yet. Kinda looks like what they use in some dragsters.

Re: My "New" Old Ride

I presume the shifter you were talking about are the "Lightning Rods" in the vehicle. For Olds, they were only offered on the '83 and '84 Hurst/Olds. The '83 was a limited production vehicle (15th Anniversary of the Hurst/Olds) with only 3001 made. I dont know the exact numbers for '84, but I believe the production numbers were very similar.

My gut says that the car is a Hurst, seeing that the 442 wasnt offered as an option package until 1985. You may want to look at www.442.com or www.oldsclub.com and link to the Hurst/Olds club for more information.

They were a way to "manually" shift the automatic that the car came with.

Here is a page that shows how they were used (scroll down):

Good looking car Bidler. The '83 version is second only the the GN/GNX G-bodies IMO.
