My Captiva

G'day all,

Just picked up my Captiva on the 29th Nov 06. This is a car bought though my work by way of 'salary sacrifice' and I will have it for 3 years or 100,000 k's - whichever comes first. At that point I go pick something else.
Basic duties for the car are family duties and going to work and back.
I have 4 kids so need to have a vehicle that can seat at least 6, but my eldest two are old enough that the percentage of time I actually do carry everybody in one car is now low.
I checked out Kia Carnival, Hyundais Trajet, Terracan & Santa Fe, Toyota Avensis Verso & Kluger, Honda Odyssey and Mitsubishi Grandis before choosing the Captiva LX.

Re: My Captiva

Once certain people get over the fact that it is a GMDAT product they will realize that the Captiva, Antara, and VUE are great products. Nice Pictures!

It looks a lot better in white than the blue GM is showing in LA.

Re: My Captiva

Congrats! That is a VERY sharp CUV. I hope cues for the next Equinox are taken from it.

Re: My Captiva

Thanks guys.
It's doing all that has been asked of it so far.
It's still drawing looks all over the place and is a nice quiet ride in normal driving. The few passengers so far have all been complementary. I haven't tried to be anything other than smooth and quiet in my driving. The performance seems pretty ok though I'm still getting used to driving a tall vehicle. The Captiva certainly doesn't turn in as sharply as the Astra. But thats horses for courses stuff.
It has the dreaded (by US forum mbrs?) corporate radio - I don't see what the fuss is. It looks good in the Captiva and works as well as any standard type radio/cd unit I've used. The 6 stack cd that reads mp3 & wma is a good feature that works well. in fact that sums up the unit in my eyes (ears?) - works well.
Negatives - bit of roll and lurch in low speed 90degree turns. Auto stick feel is a little flimsy when moving between p n r d, but fine in the auto select mode.
Preferences - rather have a flip key like my Astra, though the remote works from a much greater distance than the Astra. Bit jealous of the Vue getting 3.6DI & 6spd, maybe a revision of the Maxx down the track will pick that up.

Don't be scared by the Daewoo connection, judge it for yourself if in the market for a similar vehicle, this is miles ahead of the Viva.

Re: My Captiva

Whohoo! Cool man... I like it! Even looks good in white... which you can't say about all vehicles. Go find some moderate off-road stuff and try it out! Bet you can do what Clarkson did in the Land Rover!

Re: My Captiva

Well 2 weeks & 1500 Kms have gone by, I must say I seem to like the thing even more now than previously.
It gets a long pretty well when you give it a little encouragement with the right foot. I also had a little zip through some "chicanes" (eupemistically called 'traffic calming devices') one evening on the way home and it went through quite tidily.

So far so good, my original thoughts were to have the Captiva for the 3 years and then try to hop into a Calais. Now thats still an attractive thought, but I'm starting to think I may just go another Captiva, or perhaps a Maxx..... can I convince them to up the Maxx to 3.6 and 6speed for 2009?

Re: My Captiva

Do you have a picture of the interior by any chance? That car is probably one of the best-designed GM SUVs out there. I noticed you have the Holden version. They don't sell the Chevrolet version over there, right? Just two pictures of the car make me drool in jealousy. Excellent purchase.
