My 1997 GMC Safari
I know I may look wierd, but I really do love this van. RWD and 250lb/ft of torque is fun, even in a van. 0-60 in 10.5 seconds, not too shabby. HIDs are getting installed next week, as is some other nice gizmos. I'll post pics of that stuff after it gets installed. Enjoy!

Re: My 1997 GMC Safari
Ha! I actually get you... I always had a soft spot for these vans. I wish they'd made the shorter versions until the end... somehow I think the short butt with the stubby nose would looke great!

Wow, it's in great shape.

Re: My 1997 GMC Safari
We had a 1997 Safari, forest green with a silver bottom. We had a fully loaded SLE. I hated it, it was falling apart. My prents only bought it beacuse we were little kids, but now that we are older they bought a Tahoe in 2003 and in January, we are getting a 2007 Chevy tahoe LTZ in blue, fully loaded.

No, you have to get 24's man.... Then you can put rubberbands on for tires!

You must live close to me. Van Buren Chevrolet commercials are always on TV here in Rochester.

Re: My 1997 GMC Safari
We also had a 97 Safari SLX demo. Fully loaded, started falling apart. My dad traded it in for a 02 Dodge RAM. We also had an 88 Safari SLX SWB. I loved that van. I'm going to get myself one of those from the late 80s. Preferably am 87 with the 5-speed.

Re: My 1997 GMC Safari
I love my 2004 Safari AWD, even if it is a bit too thirsty for my daily commutes (so I drive my Bonneville instead).
Great all around vehicle (even if it does have a very "Pre-Lutz" design interior, it still is more attractive than the 2006 Suburban inside, I think) that can do just about any job if you take the time to remove the seats, but at the same time a good, smooth, quiet ride - great for road trips. Much less noisy and tighter than my 2001 Chevrolet Express passenger van. What HID lights are you getting? I might consider that upgrade someday.

Re: My 1997 GMC Safari
Ahh, that takes me back. My family has had many Chevy Astros. My dad bought one in about '87 and had 3 more after that, the last one an AWD honey that I loved. My grandparents had 2 of them, and my unlce is presently on his 3rd I think. Hard to beat for their versatility and toughness while still being small enough to manuver around in the city. Anyway, sweet ride Tahoe. Keep us updated.
