Re: Hitman1970's tale of tire drama

In an update to my tire journey. I ordered the compact steel tire for my G8 GT. It came in and I paid for it. I asked the dealership to find a space saver tire and mount it for me. Today they called they said that had read that the compact spare only works for the base G8 because of the size of the brake calipers. Sigh. I find that pretty odd.

They are crediting me for the towards the purchase of my rear sensor package which just came in. I am looking to have that installed in the first week in November. I guess I am off to ebay for a full size spare if I can find one....

Ouch, sorry to hear about the ordeal, that really sucks, and must have been one hell of a pothole. It is a shame you can't get the city to do anything about it, seems to me it should be their issue, not yours.

Full size spares are seriously a joy to have. Good luck on your hunt to find one!

Re: Hitman1970's tale of tire drama

Why not just buy a steel wheel from tire rack? or better yet...just buy one full size rim off either ebay or one of the many g8 forum websites..

http://www.forum.grrrr8.net/search.php?searchid=483703

The guys sell them pretty cheap.....and often times you can get tires already to go..check out the link above..

fwiw...I blew out a rim on the vette and bought a Preowned rim off ebay ..not bad price..I think I paid 150 delivered for a OEM rim..

Re: Hitman1970's tale of tire drama

Here's the latest update on my tire fun. I ordered a spare rim from Detroit Wheel Shop for $304. I was happy to get it. I ordered four new Eagle GTs from Sears for $171 each. When I had the tire installed. Three on the remaining Potenza wheels plus the spare they discovered that my left rear wheel was also damaged on the inside. That lovely pothole got both tires on the left side. The rear much less so thankfully. I had them mount the spare (no TPMS sensor). There is a local business in town that will fix it for $135. I should get the tire back on Wednesday and have it mounted back on the car and put the spare back in the trunk. The full-size spare fits perfect in the well so no trunk space is lost.

Stuff happens. Still love the car every day. Will post a pic with the Eagle GTs mounted after I clean her up.

I have to go buff the Mcguire's Cleaner Wax off of the wife's Freestyle now.

Re: Hitman1970's tale of tire drama

Don't feel bad...I had a similiar experience where one wheel cracked on the inside..(rock between the suspension and underside of the wheel ...I replaced the right front rim...

then I went and bought four new tires... had them mounted and they told me two of the wheels were out of round (sideways out of round.. from potholes if that makes sense) not that bad that they would replace them if it were there car...

I found 4 brand new(8 miles) c6 2009 rims on the internet, called the guy who was about an hour away....and bought them.

I can't feel any wobble as I drive but I figure better to have perfect wheels etc..

The lower profile tires tend to get hit hard by the potholes in the city...

I'm going to be more careful from now on.. (never happened on my two c5 corvettes but three new rims needed for this corvette means I need to be more careful)

Ouch. Glad to know I am not the only one who has experienced the downside of low profile tires. I can't imagine Corvette rims are cheap.

Re: Hitman1970's tale of tire drama

Normally from the dealer its 700 dollars a piece...

I just happen to find a guy who had take offs from a brand new vette..

I'm just letting you know it happens to all of us from time to time.......I can't complain because I've had a decade without a low profile damaged wheel and now? I've had three in probably six months..LOL

The old saying.... sometimes $hit just happens

Good luck and enjoy that awesome ride!
