The Fiero! (new pics up!)

Here it is. I'll be taking it out of the storage garage today for a little drive around the parking lot. Hopefully she'll be licensed the Thursday after this. I've got to get it going. Sucks to see it sitting in the garage being used as a shelf. I only have a few pictures at the moment. Hopefully I'll have more tomorrow. I can't find the digital camera though.

Here's the cardomain site: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2893021

Feel free to prod me to get stuff done if you feel I'm slacking. I could use a little motivation sometimes.

Re: The Fiero!

Great car man! I actually like that wing! I always liked the Formula nose,,, along the lines of the same-era Firebird. You either need new rims or to get those redone... the paint looks good, and as set of shiny rims would really set it off! Hope it's on the road again very soon!

Re: The Fiero!

Very sweet ride. My dad used to have one when I was a kid. There is a house in the city where I live that has an old school Bonneville and 2 or 3 Fieros out front. At least one is some kind of Indy pace car something or other. They are usually covered up. Anyway, hope this thing gets on the road soon.

Your motivation:

Wash your car.

Wash the wheels, too.

Re: The Fiero!

I love how GM used those mirrors on everything back then, haha

Looks like it'll be a fun car when you get it re-licensed! I haven't seen many nice Fieros but there's quite a few in bad condition around here.

The paint on the decklid is pretty messed up actually. I'm gonna try buffing it. Using it as a shelf though probably didn't help any.

There's a white panel on the drivers side that you'll see when I post pics later today. The previous owner got into a fender bender.

The rims are pitted and craptastic. No amount of washing is going to get them looking nice, they need serious work. I'm thinking about replacing them with the black "lace" GT/Formula rims. Here's a pic to show you what I'm talking about.

As for the rear wing, I've been told it's a Mustang Mach 1 replica. It was on my '86 when I bought it, and I threw it on the '87 for a sportier look. I've debated taking it off, seeing as it's kind of heavy and in reality won't do too much where it is. I kind of like it though.

Are you kidding? The Fiero was built from parts-bin stuff. The suspension (except on '88s) was from the Chevette, the mirrors and some of the switchgear was from the Firebird, the engine was the 2.5 from the Celebrity or the 2.8HO from the 6000STE.

It's great because parts are cheap. Labor is where they get you (assuming you can find a garage that'll agree to work on it. Most of the ones that I have found demand the cash upfront when you tell them you have a Fiero).

Also on Monte Carlo's, Camaro's, Caprice's, Firebirds (as you mentioned), etc. etc.

Re: The Fiero!

Okay here we go. New pics! Hot outta the digicam.

The "good" side.

Not so good side

Closeup of the power-fender. That white adds 20 Hp.

The wing

Back

Front

Paint troubles

Interior (I've been storing clothes in it. That's what the garbage bags are there for)

The heart of the 97 horsepower beast

The Alpine CD player that I'm gonna put it. Found it at a thrift shop for $3.00.

For a moment there I didn't think it was going to start. Had to jump start the thing with the Taurus (which feels like a truck compared to the Fiero). Finally fired up. Drove it around the lot for a bit, turned it off, checked the fluids, added some fresh gas and drove it around some more before putting it back in the garage. It makes a whistling sound when running. I'll have to get the thing home before I can start working on it though.

So anyways that's how it looks right now. The temp is on there because the tire got a nail in it. The tires are at 5s right now. I'm thinking I'll leave the spare on until I can find a lace rim at a junkyard to replace it with and get new tires then. I'll probably paint the fender to match the rest of the car until I can find a replacement.

85,000 miles on it by the way.

Re: The Fiero! (new pics up!)

Wow, that really needs some love. I always loved the Fieros from a concept perspective but never seen one in real life. Good Luck! What have you got planned or will it be a straight freshen up?

Re: The Fiero! (new pics up!)

This car looks like it is being severely neglected. You need to do more than remove it from storage to get me excited. It is a beautiful vehicle that needs some TLC. Get to work on it and then take some pics. How long have you had it for?

Re: The Fiero! (new pics up!)

I always liked these little cars. No way back then could we buy one with our kids and all. (Damn kids ruin everything...)

Is this the Pontiac version of the Reatta?
