Re: Duspinnst's Grand Cherokee

I did a closer examination, and there is a SMALL dent in the fender.

Something I'll live with, as I am sure the car will acquire many more marks on the roads of my lovely state.

I might take it out in the country next month to do some dirt road driving with a few friends. We used to do that in my Dad's Envoy back in the day.

So you qualify for the $2.99 a gallon gas right? That must be nice, but you have to do it with a credit card, which I'm not hot on the idea of.

I didn't get that, it is a CHOICE. Rebate or Gas Card. I took the $3500 Rebate.

Technically he is still paying for the Saab …………..

So approximately 90 days ago, you go from … “toying with the idea” of turning in your $400/month Saab, early and doubling your payment to $800 for a Corvette, “only $400 more a month” was your justification.

Next you shop for a “winter-beater” at the new car dealer, in MAY!?.

Now you have, $1,100/month in car payments (not including insurance) and a combined fleet MPG of less than 20!?

Seriously dude, you need a girlfriend, she’ll spend some of your millions……….

Do you live in Troy, MI or Troy, Australia? Snow is in the forecast.

I work with a guy who lives at home and drives a Vette. He said it works out ok until he gets to the front door with the girl and has to tell her shussh, don't wake my parents.

Australia’s weather is basically opposite ours, that would explain shopping for a "winter-beater" in May - sorry my snide comment flew over your head.

I was more concerned about the snow comment. It's been cold the last few days. Low 40s in the morning the other day. That's why I thought you were serious...global warming, my ass...

This was actually covered to death at the time DuSpinnst was considering that car. Everyone pretty much agreed that there's no way a 'vette can be used as a chick magnet (one of its typical primary functions) if you have to drive it back to your parents' house....

FWIW, a brand new near-lux large-ish SUV is definitely far from what I usually mean by "winter beater", so you're not alone in thinking this.

I guess he's old enough and smart enough to make his own well thought out decisions, so if that's what he prefers, so be it.

I don't hide the fact I live at home. A single guy paying for his own place (that he is at most 50% of the time in) is a waste of money (unless you expect to make a significant amount on the value of the house minus the costs of maintaining it). If that bothers a girl who has interest in me, then I guess that is too bad. I am not going to do something I think is stupid to placate a so called societal norm.

Basically if a person is single, and can stand their parents there is no reason to live outside the home. Financially, and logically it doesn't make sense. The time saved from not having to do all the extra work or upkeep alone makes it worth it.

Also living alone or with a roommate you hate isn't any fun anyway.

I got the Corvette because I wanted to drive it this summer. Keeping the Saab was not an option (because I wasn't going to foot the $407 a month on top of the Corvette).

After having the Corvette a week, my company kept sending me down to places I didn't want to drive it (like Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit), due to road conditions (Detroit has GIANT pot holes). So I started to shop for my "winter car" early.

The price I pay for the Jeep, even with the buy-off of the Saab added to the May-January months is still LESS than if I kept the Saab as my second car until February. I would have preferred to not have to get the Jeep until October, but that wasn't an option with where I had to travel for work.

I just can't drive an old car. A beater was never an option.

Also I have the money to not do that, so why not. Besides I am still saving 20-25% of my salary and I will be finishing my master's next year and expect a pretty big raise at some point after that (even if that means switching jobs).

The only thing I can be accused of is enjoying my money too much. But hey, at least someone is helping out the economy.

Are you still building the garage extension onto the side of your current garage because you need it now.

Re: Duspinnst's Grand Cherokee

Nice truck!

You going to Zaino it as well? Nothing like perfectly finished black paint.

Oh, and it looks like it's got Forteras on it. You planning on switching those out for an A/T that would be better in the winter?
