Re: darndot's 92 Caprice Wagon (New Photo 8/12/08)
What a coincidence. My wagon just started getting a front end knock (turning hard right when going out of the drive way). Hopefully it will be a cheap fix, what with my passion fingers and all
![]() When I bought mine, I took it to a local franchise for the good old $20 suspension and brake safety check. Low [sic] and behold, I had over $2500 worth of work that "needed" to be done. Apparently it was "a bit soft all round". "Compared to what?" I enquired. "Typical standard suspension limits", he said. I asked to see the test sheet and he said they'd thrown them out. "You do realise that I have FR1 suspension don't you?". "Huh?" "Just like FE2, but with more travel". There was a glazed over look and some inspection of his boot laces, some kicking of imaginary dust but no eye contact. They must make a mint over these so called inspections. Truth be told, I just wanted the test report as a baseline, so that I could check it against further tests, which I would have undertaken later on in life, should the old girl lose some of her sparkle. She still handles as good as the day I put her new boots on (2 weeks after purchase)....except the new front end knock.

Impala SS wagon! Brilliant idea! I think that we should start a darndot Impala fund to help pay for the conversion...

I would have already had it done, but it needed things to make it go down the road. Front end rebuild is next and then tires and rims.

It has been awhile, but I bought some rims and tires. OEM Impala SS Rims with 255-50ZR15s. The tires are wide! I don't think I will get close to 20MPG anymore.

It it wasn't so wet I would have taken some really nice pictures. One year to the day is pretty spooky.
