Still, though, I prefer the Belvedere.

Re: '58 Belvedere: The Anti-Corolla
Just like that.
I'm with you on that one. I'd pick a classic over most any new car... With a few exceptions. But hence why I bought a '69 CST/10 that had no motor or trans and the typical old car issues (the electrical system has a mind of its own...) as opposed to buying this 98 GMC Jimmy off my parents, which works perfectly fine.

Re: '58 Belvedere: The Anti-Corolla
This was one of my favorite threads of all time.
It was a visceral thread that brought back many car memories. To best understand, it takes prior experience, seeing, growing up with, driving and really experiencing what you've so colorfully written about. Flathead Packard 8's. The aoohga horn on a Model A. Cars with fins, AM radios, and even some with split windshields. Flooring the accelerator and actually being thrown back in your seat by a production v-8 powered rwd vehicle. Trying not to get pulled over on a Saturday night. Making it home safely. Thanks for this thread Buick. Thanks for the memories. |

I knew I'd find some people here that would have more than a superficial appreciation for such vehicles, the pure joy they elicit, and the fond memories they call forth.

Re: '58 Belvedere: The Anti-Corolla
Great read Buick!!
You clearly and accuratly described everything I love about old cars. I had my GTO (dad hasnt driven it since we bought it, I've driven it twice a week) out all day today (two tanks of gas , I ain't no Green Peace member). Gotta tell ya, I have a had time not letting the the 389 sing through all 6 barrels, the noise, the smell, the shakeing ground.....I love it. Some guys let there stereos thump, I like when my motor Pounds.
